INDIAN WEDDINGS

Indian wedding video editing for videographers who filmed every event

An Indian wedding is usually a series of events rather than a single day: many families hold a roka or engagement months ahead, then a mehndi, a haldi and a sangeet in the days before, followed by the baraat, the ceremony, the vidaai and a reception. The customs, the names for each event and the order change from region to region and family to family, so the footage you bring home can span several venues, several shooters and many hours. WeddingEditor takes that footage, one event or the whole wedding per project, and its AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser built around the people and rituals you name.

The dhol, the shehnai, the mantras and the family's voices stay as your cameras caught them. WeddingEditor never lays music over the film.

How to get an Indian wedding edited with WeddingEditor

  1. 1

Decide how to split the wedding into projects

Each project returns one edit, so think about what the couple will actually watch. One project for the whole celebration gives a single highlight that moves from the haldi to the reception. Separate projects for the sangeet, the baraat or the pheras give each event its own film. Upload every file for the project from every camera and drone you used, with no renaming, sorting or proxies needed. A project has no file count limit and no total size limit, and a single file can be up to 5 GB.

  2. 2

Write down what only you know

WeddingEditor has not met the family and was not in the mandap, so the optional preference questions are where you hand over the brief. Name the bride, the groom and the relatives with a role, describe what each wore at each event, list the rituals in the order they happened, choose how much speech, singing and live music you want heard, and say what to leave out. Questions you skip are simply skipped; nothing is assumed in their place.

  3. 3

    Start processing, then review

Pay for One Wedding or spend a plan credit, and start processing. Expect it to typically take 24 to 72 hours. WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the edit and it is delivered to your project, where you can watch it in the browser and download it as a 1080p MP4. If something needs changing, you have up to two revision rounds: send your notes by email from the link in the app.

Preference notes for an Indian wedding

Specific notes beat general ones. These read like what a videographer would type after a three-day wedding.

Who is who

"Bride: red and gold lehenga for the pheras, yellow for the haldi, blue for the sangeet. Groom: ivory sherwani with a pink safa. Bride's grandmother wears a green silk saree and should appear at the haldi and the vidaai."

Ceremony order

"Ceremony order as it happened: jaimala, kanyadaan, gathbandhan, pheras, sindoor and mangalsutra. Please keep at least one moment from each so the film follows the ceremony."

The sangeet

"At the sangeet the groom's cousins did a surprise dance for the couple and the bride's mother sang. Both matter more than the DJ set afterwards."

Sound

"More speech than music overall. Keep the priest's mantras low but present during the pheras, and let the brother's toast at the reception play in full."

Several shooters

"Two shooters at the baraat: Camera A walked with the groom, Camera B waited at the venue gate. The welcome at the gate is the moment to keep."

Leave out

"No clips of the buffet or of guests eating. The bride asked that the moment she cried at the vidaai not be used in the teaser, only in the highlight."

What Indian wedding footage usually holds

Many events, many days

Families commonly spread the celebration over two to several days, with events at each family's home, a banquet hall or lawn, and a temple or other place for the ceremony. Which events are held varies by region, community and religion: a Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati or Punjabi wedding each has its own names and rituals.

The ceremony runs on ritual time

In many Hindu weddings the ceremony is timed to an auspicious muhurat chosen with a priest, which can fall late at night or early in the morning. Its parts, such as the kanyadaan and the pheras around the sacred fire, are led by the priest in Sanskrit and often explained along the way.

Relatives with roles

Specific relatives often have named jobs: the bride's maternal uncle in several rituals, sisters and cousins in the groom's welcome games, parents in the kanyadaan, married women at the haldi. Knowing who they are is what lets an editor feature the right faces.

Bright, mixed light

Haldi and mehndi are often daytime and outdoors, the sangeet and reception sit under stage and DJ lights, and the baraat can move from daylight to fireworks. Color on screen shifts a lot between events.

One project, one edit

Each project turns into one edit, either a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, and uses one purchase or one plan credit. A wedding with many events can be one project or several.

Made by AI editing, then delivered

For this Indian wedding, every full edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing and delivered to your project. The AI editing follows your preference answers; it does not decide which rituals belong in the film.

What is an Indian wedding video edit?

An Indian wedding video edit turns hours of footage from one or more wedding events into a short film the couple and their families can watch. With WeddingEditor that film is a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, made from the footage you upload by WeddingEditor's AI editing around the people and moments you list.

"Indian wedding" covers many traditions. Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Jain and other weddings in India differ, and so do Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marwari and Punjabi weddings. The pages for each tradition go into its own events.

Indian wedding editing questions

Should I upload all the events as one project or separately?

It depends on what the couple wants to watch. One project gives one highlight that spans every event you uploaded. Separate projects give a film per event, for example one for the sangeet and one for the ceremony, and each uses its own purchase or plan credit.

Can the AI editing cut a long Hindu ceremony down to a highlight?

Yes, as part of a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes. List the steps of the ceremony you want represented, such as the kanyadaan, the pheras and the sindoor, in the must-include question. If the family wants the whole ceremony as a film, cut that yourself from your own footage.

Will the edit use the Bollywood songs played at the wedding?

Real wedding audio and music are used together. The DJ, the dhol and anyone singing can come through from your footage, and your audio preference sets the balance between speeches, voices and music. WeddingEditor does not promise a specific song.

How does the AI editing tell the relatives apart?

From your notes. In the people question, describe each person by relationship and clothing for each event, such as "groom's mother, maroon saree at the baraat, mint green at the reception".

Can my second shooter upload from the groom's side?

Yes. WeddingEditor can set up a team upload link for teammates signed in to your WeddingEditor team, so their files land in the same project as yours.

Does WeddingEditor deliver the film to the couple?

No. The edit arrives in your project for you to watch and download, and WeddingEditor never contacts your couple. You decide what to deliver, when, and whether to finish it further in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.

Who decides which Indian wedding rituals can be filmed and shown?

The family and the officiant do. WeddingEditor edits the footage you upload and does not decide religious, cultural or family protocol, such as which rites may be filmed or in what order they happen. If something should stay out, leave it out of the upload or name it in the avoid question.
