A mehndi highlight built around the henna, the songs and the women of the family
The mehndi is the henna ceremony held before many Indian weddings, usually a day or two ahead. A mehndi artist draws intricate designs in henna paste on the bride's hands and often her feet, a process that can take hours, while female relatives and friends get smaller designs, sing, dance and keep the bride company. Many families also hide the groom's name or initials in the pattern for him to find later. Upload the mehndi footage as its own WeddingEditor project, describe the people and moments, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser of it.

How to get a mehndi highlight
- 1
Upload the mehndi as one project
Create a project for the mehndi and add everything you filmed: the decor, the artist at work, close-ups of the design, guests getting henna, performances and dancing. Footage from a second shooter can go into the same project through a team upload link WeddingEditor sets up for you.
- 2
Point the edit to the details
Mehndi footage is full of close-ups that look alike. Say which detail shots matter, such as the hidden initials or a portrait of the couple drawn into the design, which relatives should be featured, and whether the singing or the dancing should carry more of the film.
- 3
Receive the finished mehndi film
Start processing after you buy One Wedding or spend a credit; the usual wait is 24 to 72 hours. For this Indian mehndi film, WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the edit and it is delivered to your project. Watch it, download the MP4, and use up to two email revision rounds.
Mehndi moments to list
The design taking shape
The artist's cone moving on the bride's palm, from the first lines to the finished pattern.
Hidden name
The groom's initials tucked into the design, and, if you filmed it, the groom searching for them later.
The bride's company
Sisters and friends sitting beside the bride, feeding her because her hands are covered, laughing.
Songs
Mehndi songs sung by the women of the family, often with a dholak and clapping.
Dancing
Relatives dancing once the bride's henna is done, often to a DJ or to their own singing.
Finished hands
The completed design held up to the camera, a moment many brides ask for.
What happens at a mehndi, in order
Mehndi celebrations range from a small gathering at home to a large decorated event. Practice varies by region and family, and some families combine it with the sangeet.
1. Setup and arrival
The space is often decorated in bright colors with cushions and floral details, and guests arrive while the bride is already seated with the artist.
2. The bride's henna
The artist applies the bride's designs, often on hands to the elbow and feet to the ankle. This is the longest part, so the rest of the event happens around her.
3. Guests' henna and music
Female guests often get simpler designs from other artists. Songs, games and dancing keep the energy up while the bride sits still.
4. Drying and the reveal
The henna is left to dry, sometimes with lemon and sugar dabbed on, and the finished pattern is shown off. A popular belief holds that a darker stain means a stronger bond, said in fun.
Close-ups are footage too
Every file you upload is available to WeddingEditor, including macro shots of the design. There is no file count limit in a project, and each file can be up to 5 GB.

What is a mehndi ceremony?
A mehndi ceremony is a pre-wedding gathering where henna designs are applied to the bride's hands and feet, usually accompanied by music, dancing and the women of both families.
It is not the haldi, where turmeric paste is applied. In Pakistani and many Muslim families the mehndi is often a larger evening event with its own dances and rituals, covered on the Pakistani pages.
Mehndi highlight questions
The bride's henna took four hours; will the film drag?
No. A Highlight Reel is about 5 minutes and a Social Teaser is shorter. Say which stages of the design to show and the rest is condensed.
Can the AI editing find the groom's hidden initials?
Only if you point them out. Note in the must-include question that the initials are in the right palm, for example, and which clip shows them clearly.
Our mehndi and sangeet were the same night. One film or two?
Your choice. Upload both into one project for a single film, or create two projects for two films, each with its own purchase or credit.
Can the guests' henna be left out?
Yes. Use the avoid question to say so, or simply ask in the preferences to focus only on the bride and her immediate family.
How is music used in the mehndi film?
Music and the real sound of the night work together. Choose in the audio preference whether the singing and the dholak should lead or whether music carries more of the film; a specific song is not promised.
Can I finish the mehndi film myself?
Yes. Download the 1080p MP4 and bring it into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro for titles or color of your own.
Is it up to WeddingEditor which mehndi moments are appropriate to include?
No. Family protocol, such as whether a women-only gathering may be shown, is the family's call. WeddingEditor edits the footage you send and follows your avoid notes; it does not judge what the family permits.
