PAKISTANI WEDDINGS

Pakistani wedding video editing, from the dholki nights to the walima

A Pakistani wedding is usually a season of events rather than one day: dholki nights at home, the mayun, a mehndi full of choreographed dances, the nikah, the baraat with the rukhsati at its end, and the walima hosted by the groom's family. Each has its own colors, its own sound and its own people. Upload one event or the whole wedding as a project, say in the preference questions who and what matters, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser from your footage.

Some families separate men's and women's spaces or limit filming at the nikah. The edit only uses what you were permitted to record.

How to get a Pakistani wedding edited

  1. 1

    Upload the events you covered

Pakistani weddings often leave you with several days of footage from different venues and often from more than one shooter, sometimes a female camera operator on the women's side. Make one project per film the couple wants and upload every camera's files without sorting them first.

  2. 2

    Describe the family

Name the couple, the parents, siblings and close cousins, with what each wore at which event, since outfits change every day. List the rasms that must appear, such as the mehndi being applied, the nikahnama signing or the Quran held over the bride at the rukhsati, and say how much of the dholak singing and the speeches you want heard.

  3. 3

    Pay, receive and revise

Buy One Wedding or use a plan credit, then start processing, which typically takes 24 to 72 hours. WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the edit, and you watch and download it in your project as a 1080p MP4. Up to two revision rounds by email are included.

Preference notes videographers write for a Pakistani wedding

Specific notes are what let WeddingEditor, which has never met the family, find the right people.

People and outfits

"Bride: yellow and green at the mayun, red lehenga at the baraat, pale gold at the walima. Feature her nani (white dupatta) and her two younger sisters in matching pink at the baraat."

The nikah

"Nikah at the masjid with the men; the bride's consent was taken separately in a room upstairs, where only female family and our female camera operator were present. Keep the signing of the nikahnama."

Mehndi performances

"Keep the cousins' group dance and the brothers' bhangra; skip the first, unrehearsed song."

The rukhsati

"Must include the Quran held over her head as she leaves and her father at the car."

Sound

"Dholak and tappay at the mehndi should carry the scene. At the walima, keep the groom's brother's speech clear."

Avoid

"No close-ups of the women's tables at the walima. Leave out the aunt in the maroon shawl who asked not to be filmed."

What Pakistani wedding footage usually includes

A run of events over days or weeks

Families often hold dholki nights in the weeks before, then the mayun, mehndi, nikah, baraat and walima. Which events a family holds, and their order, varies by family, region and community.

The nikah as the religious center

The nikah is the Islamic marriage contract, usually led by an imam or maulvi with witnesses present; the consent of both bride and groom is asked and given, and the nikahnama is signed. Some families hold it at a mosque, others at home or in the hall.

Color and loud live sound

The mayun is often yellow, the mehndi yellow, green and orange, the baraat deep reds. Dholak singing, tappay and dhol fill the pre-wedding events, and most of it is live.

The rukhsati and the walima

The baraat ends with the rukhsati, the bride's farewell from her family, and the walima, hosted by the groom's family, usually follows a day or more later.

Separate spaces in some families

Some families seat men and women separately or ask for a female videographer on the women's side. Upload whatever each camera recorded and note which side it covers.

One project, one edit

Each project produces one edit, a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, and uses one purchase or plan credit.

Teammates' footage in the same project

A teammate signed in to your WeddingEditor team can add files through a team upload link that WeddingEditor sets up.

What is a Pakistani wedding video edit?

A Pakistani wedding video edit cuts the footage of one or more Pakistani wedding events into a short film for the couple. With WeddingEditor it is a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, made by WeddingEditor's AI editing from your footage, following the people and rasms you name.

Pakistani describes a nationality and a set of regional cultures, not one ritual set. Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, Baloch and Kashmiri families each have their own customs, and most Pakistani weddings are Muslim. For the nikah and walima in other communities, see the Muslim pages.

Pakistani wedding editing questions

Can I send only the mehndi as its own film?

Yes. Create a project for the mehndi and upload only its footage. Each project produces one edit, so the mehndi and the baraat can each have their own film, each with its own purchase or credit.

Our female camera operator filmed the women's side. Can her footage go in?

Yes. If she is signed in to your WeddingEditor team, WeddingEditor can set up a team upload link and her files join the project. Say which footage is from which side.

Can the AI editing leave out the women's area at the walima?

Yes. Describe what to avoid in the preferences, for example close shots of the women's tables, and the AI editing leaves it out.

Does WeddingEditor decide how the nikah should be shown?

No. Religious and family protocol for the nikah, such as who may be filmed and whether the women's side appears, is for the family and the imam. WeddingEditor edits the footage you upload and follows your preference notes.

Will the dholak songs be heard?

If a camera recorded them, yes. They are used together with music, and your audio preference sets how much of the singing carries each event.

What does one Pakistani wedding edit cost?

One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding, and plan subscribers use one credit per project instead. Up to two revision rounds are included with every full edit.
