An aroos highlight, made from the celebration you filmed
The aroos is the main celebration of a Somali wedding, usually held after the nikah: a large gathering where the couple makes a grand entrance, often greeted by ululation, followed by food, speeches, poems, dancing such as the dhaanto, and photos with both families. To get a highlight of it, upload the aroos footage as its own WeddingEditor project, name the people, moments and limits in the preference questions, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
Some families hold separate men's and women's celebrations; ask in advance which parts you will film.

How to get a highlight of the aroos
- 1
Upload the aroos as its own project
Create a project for the aroos alone and upload every camera's footage of it. If a second videographer covered a women-only area, a teammate signed in to your WeddingEditor team can add files through a team upload link that WeddingEditor sets up for you.
- 2
Name the moments, people and limits
List the entrance, the speeches, the poems and the dances in order, describe the couple and the family members to feature, and use the avoid question for anything the family does not want shown.
- 3
Receive the highlight
Start processing once every file has finished uploading; it typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Watch the edit, download the MP4 and send up to two rounds of notes by email.
Moments of the aroos to list
The grand entrance
The couple entering the hall, the guests standing, the ululation rising.
Welcome and speeches
A relative or host welcoming guests, parents or elders speaking to the couple.
Poems and songs
A relative reciting a poem or a group singing for the couple.
The dhaanto
Guests forming a circle to dance the dhaanto, the couple joining.
Cake and photos
The couple cutting the cake and posing with both families.
The couple leaving
The end of the night, if the family wants it in the film.
What happens at an aroos, commonly
This is a common shape; families differ in order, size and customs, so confirm the plan with them.
1. Guests gather
Guests arrive in their best clothes, many women in dirac or gowns, often in a decorated hall.
2. The entrance
The couple make their entrance, often to ululation and singing, sometimes with the wedding party ahead of them.
3. Food, speeches and poems
A meal is served, and relatives or elders speak or recite poetry for the couple.
4. Dancing and photos
Dancing, including traditional dances such as the dhaanto alongside modern music, runs late, with photos taken with both families.
A highlight of it
A Highlight Reel is about 5 minutes long and the one edit of its project, so it chooses the moments you list rather than covering the night in full.
Parts of the aroos and what to note in the preferences
| Part | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Entrance | Doors open, ululation, guests standing | "Open on the entrance; keep the sound." |
| Speeches | A host, parents or elders speaking | "Keep the father's welcome audible." |
| Poems | A relative reciting, the room quiet | "Include the aunt's poem." |
| Dhaanto | A circle of dancers, clapping | "Feature the cousins, then the couple." |
| Photos | The couple with both families | "End on the two families together." |
What is an aroos?
An aroos is the main wedding celebration in Somali culture, typically a large gathering after the nikah with the couple's entrance, food, speeches, poetry and dancing. An aroos highlight is a short edit of that celebration made from the footage you upload.
It is not the nikah, the religious marriage contract, and not the shaash saar, the gathering after the wedding where the bride receives the headscarf of a married woman.
Aroos video questions
Can I get a highlight of just the aroos?
Yes. Upload only the aroos footage to its own project and it becomes its own Highlight Reel or Social Teaser.
Can a female videographer's women-only footage be added?
Yes, if she is signed in to your WeddingEditor team; she can upload through a team upload link that WeddingEditor sets up for you. The AI editing will see what she uploads, so add only footage the family agrees may be seen, and write in the preferences whether it may appear in the film.
Will the poems be heard clearly?
If your audio captured them clearly, yes. The edit keeps the original sound; ask for speech and recitation to be favored.
Does WeddingEditor decide what is appropriate to show from the aroos?
No. WeddingEditor edits the footage you upload and follows your notes. What may be filmed and shown, including any women-only footage, is the family's decision; list the moments in order and write the limits in the avoid question.
What does an aroos highlight cost?
One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding, or one plan credit.
The aroos ran very late. Do I need to upload all of it?
Upload everything you want the AI editing to be able to choose from; there is no limit on the number of files or total size. If parts of the night should not be used at all, such as the end of the evening after the family left, leave those clips out of the upload.
