Muslim wedding video editing, from the nikah to the walima
Muslim weddings are held in many cultures, from South Asian and Arab families to Turkish, Malay, Somali and West African ones, so the events and their names change from wedding to wedding. What most share is the nikah, a short marriage contract in which the couple consents in front of witnesses, and many add a walima feast and, in South Asian families, a rukhsati farewell. With WeddingEditor you upload the events you filmed, say which people and moments matter and what the family asked you not to show, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser from your footage.
The recitation, the dua and the voices stay as your cameras recorded them. WeddingEditor does not put a song over the film.

How to get a Muslim wedding edited
- 1
Upload what you filmed, event by event or all at once
A Muslim wedding can be one small nikah at a mosque or several days of mehndi, nikah, rukhsati and walima in different halls. Make one project per event if the couple wants separate films, or one project for the whole wedding if they want a single highlight. Put in the files from every camera; you do not need to rename or sort clips, and there is no cap on how many files a project holds.
- 2
Write down what the AI editing cannot know
WeddingEditor was not in the room and does not know the family's customs, so the preference questions do that work. Name the couple, the parents, the wali if there is one and the person who led the nikah. List the moments that must be in, such as the consent and the signing, and use the avoid question for anything the family asked to keep private, for example the women's side of a separated hall.
- 3
Start processing, then review the edit
Buy One Wedding or spend a plan credit and start processing; it typically takes 24 to 72 hours. The edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing and delivered to your project as a 1080p MP4. If something needs changing, email your notes from the link in the app; up to two revision rounds are included.
Preference notes for a Muslim wedding
Write these the way you would brief someone who has never met the family.
The people
"Bride: ivory gown with a gold hijab at the nikah, red lehenga at the walima. Groom: navy sherwani. Please feature her father, who acted as wali, the imam in the white thobe, and the two witnesses at the signing table."
The consent
"The three times the bride says 'qubool hai' is the heart of the day. Keep her voice clear, and the groom's reply after it."
Privacy
"The family asked that the women's hall not be shown with hair uncovered. Only use the clips from camera B in that hall where everyone is in hijab, or leave that hall out."
Sound
"Keep the Quran recitation and the dua unhurried and audible. At the walima, balance the speeches over the room noise."
The farewell
"At the rukhsati her brothers hold the Quran over her head as she walks to the car. Please include that walk and her mother at the door."
Leave out
"No shots of the money garland at the walima, and nothing of the groom's cousin in the grey suit, who asked not to be filmed."
What Muslim wedding footage usually includes
Customs differ a great deal between countries, communities and schools of thought. Check the family's own order and names before the day.
The nikah is short and spoken
The nikah is the marriage contract. An officiant, often an imam or another person the family chooses, usually gives a short sermon, the consent of both bride and groom is asked and given, witnesses are present, and the contract is signed. Much of what matters is said, not shown.
Mahr is part of the contract
The mahr is a gift from the groom to the bride that is agreed and named as part of the nikah. In some families it is announced aloud, in others it is written in the contract only, so ask the family whether they want it in the film.
Separate spaces are common
Many families seat men and women apart, and in some the bride gives her consent in a separate room while her wali or representatives carry it to the officiant. That can mean two cameras in two rooms for one ceremony.
Filming rules vary
Mosques set their own rules about cameras, and families differ on whether music, dancing or uncovered hair may appear in a film that will be shared. Those decisions belong to the family, and they belong in your preference notes.
One project, one edit
Each project produces one edit: a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser. A three-day wedding can be one project or one per event, each using one purchase or one plan credit.
The AI editing follows your notes
WeddingEditor's AI editing makes every full edit, working from the footage you upload and the answers you give. It does not decide on its own what a religious ceremony should show.
Muslim wedding events and what to note in the preferences
Not every family holds every event, and the names change by language and region.
| Event | What to film or flag | A preference note for it |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement | In many families a ring exchange or a reading of Al-Fatiha with both families, gifts, sweets | "Feature both fathers during the Fatiha." |
| Mehndi or henna night | Henna on the bride's hands, songs, in many cultures drums such as the daf or dholak | "Keep the aunts singing; the henna artist's hands matter." |
| Nikah | The sermon, the consent, the witnesses, the mahr if announced, the signing, the dua | "Must include her consent and the signing." |
| Rukhsati | In many South Asian families the bride leaving her parents' home, often under a Quran held over her head | "Keep the walk to the car quiet and slow." |
| Walima | The feast hosted by the groom's family after the nikah, the couple's entrance, guests greeting them | "Feature the groom's parents welcoming guests." |
| Reception | In some communities a separate party with speeches and family photos | "Speech-led: keep the uncle's welcome and the toasts." |
What is a Muslim wedding video edit?
A Muslim wedding video edit turns your footage of a nikah and the events around it into a short film the couple can keep. With WeddingEditor it is a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, made by WeddingEditor's AI editing from the files you upload and the people and moments you name.
Muslim describes a faith, not a culture. A Muslim wedding in Lahore, Cairo, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur or Lagos can look and sound very different, so the culture pages, such as Pakistani or Bangladeshi, cover customs that belong to one region.
Muslim wedding editing questions
Can I send only the nikah as its own project?
Yes. Create a project for the nikah alone and upload its footage. You get one edit of it, and the walima or the rukhsati can be separate projects if the couple wants a film of each.
The family does not want music in the film. Is that a problem?
No. WeddingEditor keeps the sound your cameras recorded and uses music alongside it, balanced by your audio preference, so choose more speeches and voices for a nikah film carried by the recitation, the voices and the room. Say in the preferences how prominent you want speech to be.
Some of the women's side must not be shown. How do I make sure?
Use the question about things to avoid. Describe exactly what must stay out, such as a room, a camera or a time window, and the AI editing works from those notes. Check the finished edit before you share it and use a revision round if anything slipped in.
Will WeddingEditor know what the mahr or the wali is?
Do not rely on that. WeddingEditor edits from what you upload and write, so explain who each person is and which moments matter, in your own words, in the people and moments questions.
Can my second shooter in the women's hall add their files?
Yes, if they are signed in to your WeddingEditor team. WeddingEditor can set up a team upload link, and their files are moved into the same project as yours.
What does one Muslim wedding edit cost?
One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding, and plan subscribers spend one credit per project instead. Up to two revision rounds by email come with every full edit.
