A pithi highlight full of turmeric, laughter and family
The pithi is the Gujarati turmeric ceremony, held in the days before the wedding or on the morning of it, usually at the bride's and the groom's homes separately. Married women of the family and close relatives apply a paste of turmeric, often mixed with sandalwood, rose water or oil, to the bride's or groom's face, arms and feet, and the ritual often turns playful as relatives smear each other. Upload the pithi as its own WeddingEditor project, say whose hands and reactions matter, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

How to get a Pithi highlight
- 1
Upload one side or both
If you covered the pithi at both homes, decide whether you want one film or two. One project gives one edit, so put both homes in one project for a combined film, or make a project per side. Upload every camera's clips unsorted.
- 2
Brief the faces and the mess
Name the bride or groom, their mother, the aunts and cousins applying the paste, and anyone who started the playful smearing. List must-include moments, such as the first application by the mother and the final splash, and note anything to avoid.
- 3
Get the edit and revise it
Pay or use a credit, start processing, and processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours. The finished edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing before it reaches your project, and you can send up to two rounds of revisions by email.
Moments of the pithi to list
Note these in the must-include answer, first touch to final splash.
The paste being mixed
Bowls of turmeric paste prepared, often with flowers and decorations around the seat.
The first application
In many families the mother or an elder applies the first touch of pithi.
Relatives taking turns
Aunts, cousins and friends applying paste to the cheeks, arms and feet.
The playful turn
Relatives smearing each other and the photographer, the moment that usually gets the most laughter.
Songs and dancing
Women singing, sometimes dancing around the seat, if it happened.
The yellow-stained close
The bride or groom covered in turmeric, smiling, before the bath that follows.
What happens at the pithi, in order
Customs differ between families. Some hold the pithi with the mehndi or the mandvo, others keep it small and private.
1. Preparing the seat
The bride or groom sits on a low seat, often in old or yellow clothes, with the paste in bowls nearby.
2. Application by family
Married women and elders apply the paste first, followed by other relatives and friends.
3. Songs and play
Traditional songs are sung, and the ritual often turns into playful smearing among the guests.
4. The bath
Afterwards the bride or groom washes off the paste. In many families they then stay home until the wedding.
One edit per project
A pithi project produces one edit: a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
Bright, outdoor-style light
Pithi is often held in daylight or a bright courtyard. The edit uses the footage exactly as you shot it, so point the edit to the clearest clips of the key people.

What is the pithi?
The pithi is a Gujarati pre-wedding ceremony in which family members apply turmeric paste to the bride and the groom, at their own homes, as a blessing before the wedding.
It is the Gujarati form of the haldi ceremony held by many Indian families; the name, the ingredients and the songs differ by community. It is also separate from the mehndi, where henna is applied to the bride's hands.
Pithi highlight questions
Can the bride's and groom's pithi be one film?
Yes, if both are in one project. WeddingEditor's AI editing cuts between the two homes. If the families want separate films, make two projects.
What if turmeric got on the lens?
The edit can only use the footage you upload. Mention any clips you would rather not use, and the AI editing leaves them out.
Will the singing be in the film?
Yes, as recorded. Say in the audio question how much of the singing to keep.
Can the pithi be part of a whole-wedding highlight instead?
Yes. Upload it to the same project as the other events and list the pithi moments you want in the highlight.
Do I need to sort the clips first?
No. Upload the files as they are, from every camera; renaming or pre-selecting is not needed.
Does WeddingEditor decide how much of the pithi can be shown?
No. Some families keep the pithi within the family, so how much appears is their call. For this Gujarati pithi film, WeddingEditor edits only the clips you upload and follows your avoid notes.
