Five minutes that hold the vows, the hymns and the walk out
A Christian wedding highlight has to fit a whole service and a whole party into about 5 minutes, and the strongest ones usually let the spoken parts do the work: a line of the vows, a phrase from the reading, the minister's pronouncement, a toast at dinner. Set the project to Highlight Reel, upload the day, list those lines and the faces that go with them in the preference questions, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the reel and delivers it to your project.
Which church, which order and which words matter most are yours to say. The reel is built from your list.

How to brief a Christian wedding highlight
- 1
Create a Highlight Reel project and upload
Choose Highlight Reel as the deliverable, then add the files from getting ready, the church, the portraits and the reception. Include the camera that stood closest to the couple, since it often holds the clearest vows. You do not need to trim or label anything, and every file must finish uploading before checkout.
- 2
Pick the lines and faces that must survive
A reel this short cannot hold every reading, so choose. In the moments question, list the two or three spoken lines that matter most and the reaction shots that go with them, such as a father's face during the vows. Under audio, choose More speeches & voices if the words should lead, and use the people question to describe the minister, the readers and the grandparents.
- 3
Watch it, download it, send notes
After you start processing, which typically takes 24 to 72 hours, the finished reel plays in your project and downloads as a widescreen 1080p MP4. If a reading you wanted is missing, reply by email from the link in the app; up to two revision rounds are part of the order.
Moments to list for a Christian wedding highlight
Write these into the moments question in the order they happened, with a name or a detail that makes each one easy to find.
The doors opening
The congregation standing and turning as the bride appears at the back of the church, with the first bars of the processional from the organ or band.
One line from the reading
A single phrase from the Scripture reading, spoken by a family member, laid over shots of the couple listening. Note which reader and which line, such as "love is patient".
The vows themselves
The couple's promises, ideally the whole of one partner's vow and a fragment of the other's, so the reel has a spoken center.
Prayer over the couple
Heads bowed, the minister's hand raised or laid on the couple's shoulders. In some churches family or the congregation join in, which reads strongly on camera.
Pronouncement and recessional
"I now pronounce you," the kiss in churches where it is part of the service, and the walk back down the aisle to applause, bells or a closing hymn.
A toast and a dance
One toast with a line that lands and a few seconds of the first dance, so the reel ends in the reception rather than the church.
What a good Christian wedding highlight balances
Words against music
The service is mostly speech and congregational singing, the reception mostly toasts and the DJ or band. A reel that uses the vows and one reading as its spine, with singing heard between them, tends to feel like the day rather than a montage.
Church against reception
Many couples see the service as the point of the day and the party as the celebration. Say in the priorities question whether Ceremony & vows or Reception & dancing should take more of the running time.
What to leave for your own full film
The full sermon, each reading in full, every hymn verse and the register signing belong in a longer film that you make yourself from your own footage, if the couple wants one. The reel only samples them.
Faces in fixed positions
If the church kept you at the back or in a balcony, the highlight depends on the few angles that show faces. Say which camera saw the couple best during the vows.
About 5 minutes, one per project
A Highlight Reel runs about 5 minutes and is the only edit its project produces. For a Social Teaser of the same day, start a second project.
Vows first, music in support
The reel lets the vows and the choir be heard and uses music alongside them; pick more speeches and voices in the audio question if the words should lead.
Highlight moments and how to brief them
| Moment | Why it matters | How to brief it |
|---|---|---|
| Processional | Sets the place and the music of the church in a few seconds | "Open on the doors and the bride's father, organ audible." |
| Reading | Gives the reel words the couple chose for their day | "Use her sister's line from Ruth 1, 'where you go I will go'." |
| Vows | The spoken center of most Christian services | "Groom's whole vow; one line of the bride's, crying." |
| Blessing or prayer | Shows the faith side of the day without needing many words | "Hands laid on them by both fathers, about the middle of the service." |
| Recessional | The release after the service, often with applause or a hymn | "Walk out and the bubble exit on the steps." |
| Toast and first dance | Carries the reel into the celebration and gives it an ending | "Best man's last line, then the first dance spin." |
What is a Christian wedding Highlight Reel?
A Christian wedding Highlight Reel is a film of about 5 minutes that carries the key spoken and sung moments of a church wedding and the celebration after it. On WeddingEditor it is one of two deliverables you can choose for a project, and each project produces one; WeddingEditor's AI editing makes it from your footage and your list of moments.
It is not the full film of the service. A reel samples the readings, vows and prayers, so if the couple wants the whole ceremony to keep, cut that from your own footage.
Christian wedding highlight questions
Can a highlight use the vows as narration over the whole reel?
Yes, if you ask. Say in the moments question that the vows should run under other shots, and name which partner's vow to use. The edit works with the sound your cameras recorded, so a clean vow recording makes this work best.
How much of the sermon will end up in the highlight?
Usually very little, unless you ask for it. If one line from the minister meant a lot to the couple, quote it in the moments question with roughly when it was said, and it can be placed in the reel.
We had a unity candle and a foot washing. Will those be in it?
They will if you list them. Customs like these vary from church to church, so describe each one in a sentence and say who took part. The edit follows your notes rather than guessing what a rite should look like.
Can the highlight leave out the reception and stay in the church?
Yes. Choose Ceremony & vows in the priorities question and write in the moments question that the reel should stay with the service. You can also simply upload only the church footage to the project.
How long does a Christian wedding highlight take to come back?
Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours from when you start it. There is no guaranteed turnaround, so leave room before you have promised the couple a date.
Can I finish the reel in my own editor?
Yes. Download the MP4 and bring it into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro to add titles, a logo or your own finishing touches before you deliver it.
