BENGALI WEDDINGS

A shubho drishti highlight of the first look behind the paan leaves

The shubho drishti is the auspicious first look in a Hindu Bengali wedding. It comes straight after the saat paak, in which the bride, seated on a wooden piri lifted by her brothers or male relatives, is carried around the groom seven times with her face hidden behind betel (paan) leaves. When the turns are done she lowers the leaves and the couple look at each other for the first time as bride and groom, while women ululate and conch shells sound. Upload this part of the night as its own WeddingEditor project, name the people and moments, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a highlight.

These moments are short. Several angles and clear notes help the edit catch them.

What happens at the shubho drishti, in order

This is the common shape. Families and priests may vary the details.

1. The bride brought in

The bride is seated on a low wooden seat, the piri, and lifted by her brothers or other male relatives.

2. Saat paak

She is carried around the groom seven times, her face covered by paan leaves.

3. The first look

After the seventh turn she lowers the leaves and the couple look at each other: the shubho drishti.

4. Garlands

The mala badal follows, the exchange of garlands, often three times and often playful.

Short moments, one edit

One project produces one edit. Because these moments are short, a Social Teaser can suit them as well as a Highlight Reel.

What is the shubho drishti?

Shubho drishti, meaning auspicious sight, is the moment in a Hindu Bengali wedding when the bride and groom first look at each other during the ceremony, after the bride has been carried around the groom seven times.

It is not the saptapadi, the seven steps taken later around the sacred fire. The saat paak circles the groom, while the saptapadi involves the fire.

Shubho drishti highlight questions

The first look lasted a second. Can a whole edit be built around it?

Yes, if you upload the saat paak, the look and the mala badal around it. A Social Teaser often suits this short sequence.

How do I make sure her face is shown when the leaves come down?

Name the camera and the moment in your notes. The AI editing works from that, and you can use a revision round if needed.

Can the ulu be the loudest sound in the edit?

Say so in the audio question. The edit keeps your recorded sound, so the ulu is there if your cameras captured it.

Should the mala badal be included here?

Most families see it as part of the same moment. List it if you want it.

Can the shubho drishti be part of the full wedding highlight instead?

Yes. Upload it into the wedding's main project and list it among the moments there. A separate project is only for a separate film.

Is anything sent to the couple?

No. WeddingEditor never sends anything to your couple; you decide when they see it.

Does WeddingEditor decide how close the edit gets to the bride's face?

No, that is the bride's and family's call. WeddingEditor's AI editing follows your notes and the footage you upload; if close-ups should be limited, say so in the avoid question.
