Wedding video culling: why you can skip it before the edit
Wedding video culling is the pass where you watch every clip, throw out the misfires and keep the usable moments before you cut anything. WeddingEditor does not ask you to do that pass. You upload every video and audio file from the day, without renaming, sorting by camera or pre-selecting clips, and WeddingEditor's AI editing builds a Highlight Reel or Social Teaser from the full set. Your choices about people and moments go into an optional preferences form instead of a culled folder.
Creating an account is free; you only pay when you are ready to start an edit.
What changes when you stop culling first
A full upload instead of a selects folder
Every clip from every card goes into one wedding project in the browser. There is no limit on the number of files or on the total size of the project, so nothing has to be left behind to save space.
Your judgment captured as answers, not deletions
Instead of dragging favorites into a bin, you write down the people and moments that matter most and anything to avoid. Those answers shape the edit the AI editing makes.
A finished edit to review
You get back one edit for the project: a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, delivered as a 1080p MP4 you can watch in the app and download.
Up to two rounds to correct course
If a shot you would have culled made it in, or a moment you love is missing, you email your notes and the same edit is revised. Up to two revision rounds come with every full edit.
What wedding video culling is
Culling is the selection pass that sits between ingest and editing. A videographer scrubs through hours of footage from two or three cameras and a drone, flags the clips with focus problems, blocked angles, guests walking through frame or dead air, and keeps a smaller pool of usable material for the timeline. Photographers cull stills in a similar way, and dedicated culling tools exist for photos. For video the pass is slower, because a clip has to be watched rather than glanced at, and a wedding day can produce hundreds of clips. Many editors cull and log in the same sitting so they know where the vows, toasts and first dance sit. WeddingEditor removes the requirement to do this pass yourself: the selection happens inside the AI edit made from your complete upload.
Not the same as photo culling software. WeddingEditor works with video and audio files and returns an edited video, not a set of picked stills.
How to hand off a wedding without culling it
- 1
Create the project and choose the edit
Start a wedding project and pick the deliverable: Highlight Reel or Social Teaser. One project produces one edit.
- 2
Upload every card as it came off the camera
Select the .mov, .mp4 and .wav files straight from your drives. You do not need proxies, renamed files or a camera-by-camera folder structure. Keep the tab open while files transfer.
- 3
Replace your culling notes with preference answers
Use the optional preferences to say who matters, which moments must be in the film and what to leave out, for example a relative who asked not to appear or a messy room.
- 4
Pay, wait, review
Buy One Wedding or use a plan credit, then start processing. Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Watch the edit in the app, download the MP4, and send revision notes if something needs to change.
What WeddingEditor handles in place of a cull
No pre-selection required
You do not rename, sort by camera, make proxies or pre-select clips before uploading.
Footage from several cameras in one project
Upload the A camera, B camera and any extra angles into the same wedding project.
No cap on files or project size
There is no limit on the number of files or the total size of a project; each file can be up to 5 GB.
AI editing makes the edit
Every full edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing and delivered to your project.
Your priorities written down
Preference answers about film feel, priorities, specific people, must-include moments and things to avoid shape the edit.
Nothing invented for skipped questions
Every preference question is optional, and nothing is assumed for the ones you leave blank.
Locked source
Once you pay, your footage is locked, so the edit is made from exactly what you uploaded.
What to know before you skip the cull
You still choose what to upload
Files you leave on the card are not in the project. If a clip should never appear, say so in the preferences or leave it out of the upload.
Uploads need the tab open
If an upload is interrupted, select the same original files again to continue. Plan large uploads for a time when the browser can stay open.
Finished film, not a multicam project
You receive a finished MP4, not an organized multicam project, so it does not replace angle-by-angle work you want to do yourself in your editor.
One deliverable per project
A culled pool often feeds several films. In WeddingEditor each project returns one edit, a Highlight Reel or a Social Teaser.
Culling yourself vs handing off the full upload
| Step | Cull and edit yourself | Upload everything to WeddingEditor |
|---|---|---|
| Selection pass | You watch every clip and flag keepers | No pass required before upload |
| How priorities are recorded | Bins, markers and memory | Optional preference answers |
| Who builds the first cut | You | WeddingEditor's AI editing |
| Changes after the first cut | You re-edit | Up to two revision rounds by email |
| Output | Whatever your timeline exports | 1080p MP4 Highlight Reel or Social Teaser |

Wedding video culling questions
Do I need to cull my wedding footage before uploading?
No. You can upload footage from every camera without renaming, sorting or pre-selecting clips. The AI editing works from the full upload and your preference answers.
Is there video culling software built into WeddingEditor?
Not as a separate tool you operate. There is no culling screen with ratings or flags. Selection happens as part of the edit WeddingEditor's AI editing makes from your upload.
Will a bad clip end up in my edit?
It can happen, which is why every full edit comes with up to two revision rounds. Email your notes from the link in the app and the same edit is revised. You can also list things to avoid in the preferences before you start.
Does it use AI culling?
WeddingEditor does not sell an AI culling feature. The paid edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing, guided by your preferences. Whether software helps them internally is not something this page promises.
How much footage can I upload without culling?
There is no limit on the number of files or the total size of a wedding project. Each file can be up to 5 GB.
Should I still remove clips that must never appear?
Yes, if there is footage that should not be seen at all, the safest step is to leave it out of the upload. Writing it into the preferences is the other option.
Can I cull photos with WeddingEditor?
No. WeddingEditor is for wedding video. It accepts video and audio files and returns an edited MP4.
