Wedding video in 4K: what happens to your 4K footage
Many wedding videographers shoot 4K for the extra room it gives: reframing a wide into a medium, stabilizing without losing detail, and a sharper downscaled image. WeddingEditor accepts 4K clips, including drone 4K, as uploads. The finished edit, however, is delivered at 1080p as an H.264 MP4. There is no 4K output. If your couple expects a 4K film, plan on delivering the 1080p edit as a highlight or finishing a 4K master yourself.

4K in, 1080p out
Upload at full resolution
4K files go up as they came off the camera. No transcoding or proxies are needed before upload, which saves a step most editors do on ingest.
A 1920x1080 deliverable
The edit is a 1080p H.264 MP4, a format every player, browser and gallery handles.
Downscaled detail
Footage shot in 4K and delivered at 1080p usually looks crisp, which is one reason many shooters capture in 4K even for HD delivery. Mixed cameras are fine too: a 4K A camera and a 1080p B camera can go into the same project.
A clean base for your own master
Import the MP4 into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro if you want to add titles, grade or music before delivering.
What 4K means for wedding video
4K usually refers to UHD video at 3840 by 2160 pixels, four times the pixel count of 1080p at 1920 by 1080. For wedding work it brings flexibility in post more than a visible difference on most screens: an editor can punch in on a 4K wide shot and still have a full HD frame, or stabilize handheld footage by cropping. The cost is storage and processing: 4K files are large, which slows copying, uploading and editing, and many editors work from proxies. Delivery in 4K matters to some couples who watch on large televisions, but much wedding viewing happens on phones and laptops where 1080p is the standard. WeddingEditor's place in this is simple: 4K in, 1080p out. Frame rate is a separate question from resolution: 4K at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second changes motion and slow-motion options, not the pixel count, and those choices stay with your own finishing.
Not the same as an upscaler. WeddingEditor does not upscale 1080p footage to 4K or deliver a 4K file.
Sending 4K footage to WeddingEditor
- 1
Create the project
Choose Highlight Reel or Social Teaser.
- 2
Upload the 4K files
Each file can be up to 5 GB, and there is no limit on the number of files or the total size. Long 4K clips that exceed 5 GB need to be split before upload.
- 3
Answer the optional preferences
Say what matters: people, moments, the feel of the film and anything to avoid. Resolution is not a setting here; every edit comes back at 1080p, so there is nothing to choose.
- 4
Download the 1080p edit
Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Watch it in the app and download the MP4, as many times as you need from the same project.

4K limits
No 4K deliverable
If a contract promises a 4K film, WeddingEditor's edit will not meet it on its own.
5 GB per file
High-bitrate 4K clips can pass 5 GB quickly, especially long ceremony takes from a locked-off camera. Split them before upload, or set the camera to split recordings into smaller files.
Upload time
4K weddings are large; keep the browser tab open while files transfer, and reselect the same original files after an interruption. A wired connection and an evening upload window help with multi-hundred-gigabyte weddings.
No reframing promises
Do not expect the edit to punch in or stabilize using the 4K headroom; treat that as finishing work. If a shot only works as a tighter crop, the place to make that crop is your own timeline after download.

Wedding video 4K questions
Does WeddingEditor deliver wedding videos in 4K?
No. The finished edit is a 1080p H.264 MP4. There is no 4K output.
Can I upload 4K footage?
Yes. 4K and drone clips can be uploaded, and the edit is delivered at 1080p.
Is 1080p good enough for a wedding film?
For most viewing on phones, laptops and online galleries, 1080p is the standard. Couples who watch on very large screens may notice the difference, so set expectations in your contract.
Should I shoot weddings in 4K if the edit is 1080p?
Many videographers do, for the extra room when reframing in their own projects and for a sharp downscaled image. The tradeoff is larger files and longer uploads.
What is the maximum file size for 4K clips?
Each file can be up to 5 GB. There is no limit on the number of files or the total size.
Do I need to make proxies before upload?
No. You do not need to make proxies, rename files or sort by camera.
Can I get a 4K version later?
No. There is no 4K version of any edit.
Can I upscale the 1080p edit?
You can run it through an upscaler of your choice after download, but WeddingEditor does not upscale or promise results from it.
Will the edit use my 4K footage's detail by punching in?
Do not count on it. Reframing and stabilizing with 4K headroom are finishing choices you can make in your own projects.
Is 4K worth the storage for wedding videographers?
It depends on how you finish. If you deliver HD and rarely reframe, 1080p capture saves storage and upload time; if you crop and stabilize often, 4K gives you room.
