Definition
Wedding video editing is the process of turning the raw footage of a wedding into a finished film by choosing the moments that matter, trimming speeches, combining camera angles and building a story with a beginning, middle and ending.
Not the same as wedding videography, which is the filming, or post-production as a whole, which also covers backup, color and delivery.
What it involves
A wedding edit usually starts with reviewing the whole day's footage, often several hours from more than one camera. The editor selects moments, trims vows and speeches to their strongest lines, chooses between angles, balances real audio with music and orders it all into a story.
The common finished films are a highlight film of a few minutes, a short teaser for sharing, and sometimes a long-form film of the ceremony and speeches.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Highlight film | A short film of the day's key moments; WeddingEditor's Highlight Reel runs about five minutes |
| Teaser | A fast, shorter film; WeddingEditor's Social Teaser runs about one minute |
| Selects | The shortlist of usable moments pulled from the footage |
| B-roll | Supporting shots of details, venue and place |
| Long-form film | A longer edit covering the ceremony and speeches more fully |
