Wedding vows video: getting the promises into the highlight

Personal vows are often the emotional center of a wedding film, and a vows video is only as good as the audio you recorded at the altar. With WeddingEditor you upload the ceremony footage and lavalier or recorder files, write in your preferences which vows or lines must be heard, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes with the original sound kept. You review the 1080p MP4 in the app and can ask for up to two rounds of changes.

Creating an account is free; you only pay when you are ready to start an edit.

What to expect from a vows-centered highlight

When the couple wrote their own vows, these are the outcomes worth planning for.

Their voices, with music in support

Vows are heard in the audio you captured. Choose More speeches & voices so nothing competes with a shaky voice or a laugh between lines.

Lines chosen with your guidance

You can quote the sentences the couple will want to hear again, and the AI editing uses those notes when shaping the story around the ceremony.

Vows woven through the day

In a highlight of about 5 minutes, vow lines often return over later scenes. How they are placed is an editing choice the AI editing makes from your notes.

Ready for your own polish

Bring the MP4 into your editor if you want to add a title card with the date or a full uncut vows segment as a bonus file.

What is a wedding vows video?

A vows video is a wedding film, or part of one, built around the promises the couple say to each other. Some studios deliver the vows as their own short file; others thread vow audio through the highlight so a promise made at the altar plays over the first dance or the sparkler exit. Either way, the craft is the same: clean audio from a microphone close to each speaker, a camera angle that holds faces rather than backs, and the restraint to let a line breathe. The editor's job is to choose which promises carry the film and to cut away before the moment gets long.

Not the same as a ceremony film. A full ceremony edit keeps the whole service; a vows video focuses on the promises. WeddingEditor edits the ceremony inside the Highlight Reel or Social Teaser rather than as a standalone ceremony film.

Getting vows into your edit

  1. 1

Choose Highlight Reel for the project

Create the wedding in the app and pick Highlight Reel, so the vows can play a part in a film of about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Upload the ceremony as shot

Add every angle and every audio file from the ceremony, including lavalier or recorder .wav files. Leave clips unsorted; renaming and pre-selecting are not required.

  3. 3

Mark the vows as a priority

In the preference questions, say the vows are a must-include moment, note whether they were written by the couple, and quote the lines that matter.

  4. 4

    Review and use your revisions

After payment the edit typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Watch it in the app and email notes from the revision link if the wrong promise made the cut.

How WeddingEditor handles a vows-led wedding

Accepts separate audio files

You can upload .wav files alongside video in the browser, so lavalier recordings travel with the ceremony footage.

Must-include moments in preferences

Preference answers include must-include moments and specific people, and they shape the edit.

Original sound kept

The edit uses the sound recorded in your footage together with music, balanced by your audio preference.

AI-made edit

WeddingEditor's AI editing makes each full edit and delivers it to your project.

Edits you can revise

Up to two revision rounds are included with every paid full edit.

You decide what the couple sees

WeddingEditor never sends anything to your couple, so you can review the vows edit before it goes out.

Limits to know before a vows edit

Works with what was captured

The vows can only be as clear as the best recording of them. If the vows only exist on a lavalier file, say so in your preferences.

No audio repair

Wind noise or a clipped microphone stays as recorded. Repair it in your own editor.

No uncut ceremony

There is no ceremony deliverable. If the couple wants the full vows unedited, export that segment yourself.

No subtitles

Vow captions for guests who could not hear are not added. Add subtitles after download if needed.

Shooting vows so they can be edited

Put a microphone on each speaker, or on the officiant if the couple will repeat after them. Camera audio from the back of the aisle almost never carries a whispered promise, and no amount of editing can recover words that were not recorded.

Frame for faces. The most common problem with vows footage is a camera that sees the back of one partner for the whole ceremony. A second angle over the officiant's shoulder solves it, and it also gives the edit a reaction to cut to.

When the couple reads vows from a card or phone, ask them to hold it low. A card in front of the mouth blocks the face at the exact moment the edit wants it, and it muffles the audio on a camera microphone.

Pricing for a vows edit

A vows-led highlight is a normal wedding edit: $119 one-time for one wedding, or one credit from a monthly plan such as Solo at $99 per month.

Solo$99 per month, 1 wedding credit

Wedding vows video questions

Can WeddingEditor make a separate vows-only video?

No. Each wedding project produces one edit, a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser. Vows can be a priority inside the highlight; a separate vows file is something you cut yourself.

What if the vows were only captured on a lavalier?

Upload the lavalier .wav files with the ceremony footage and say in your preferences which file holds the vows, so the edit uses the clearest recording.

Will music be added under the vows?

Yes. Music supports the moments in the edit, and the audio preference sets the balance: More speeches & voices, Balanced speech & music, or Mostly music-led. Real wedding audio such as vows, speeches and laughter can carry the story, with music in support.

Can I ask for a specific promise to be included?

Yes. Quote it in your preference answers. It guides the AI editing, and if it is missing you can request it in one of your revision rounds (up to two are included).

Does the couple get the vows video directly?

No. WeddingEditor never sends anything to your couple. You download the MP4 and decide what to deliver and when.

Can I post a vows clip on TikTok from this edit?

The edit is a 1080p widescreen MP4 with no vertical version. Crop a vertical clip in your own editor if you want one for TikTok.

Who decides which vow lines are used?

WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the edit using your preference answers as guidance, and the edit is delivered to your project.
