A milni highlight, every pair of relatives in order
The milni, meaning meeting, is when the two families formally greet each other before the Anand Karaj, usually outside or in the entrance of the gurdwara when the baraat arrives. After an ardas, and often a shabad sung by the ragis, relatives with matching roles meet in pairs: the fathers first, then uncles, brothers and grandfathers, each embracing and exchanging garlands and, in many families, a gift. Upload the milni as its own project, list the pairs in order, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

How to get a highlight of the milni
- 1
Upload the milni footage
Create a project for the milni and add your clips from the arrival of the baraat through the last pair. If two shooters covered the two sides of the line, upload both.
- 2
List the pairs and their order
WeddingEditor cannot tell an uncle from a brother. In the preferences, list each pair in the order they met, with names, roles and what they wore, and mark the moments the family will want, such as a grandfather lifting the other off his feet.
- 3
Receive your milni film
Pay with One Wedding or a credit and start processing; it typically takes 24 to 72 hours. The finished edit, made by WeddingEditor's AI editing, appears in your project as a 1080p MP4, with up to two revision rounds by email.
Moments of the milni to list
The baraat arriving
The groom's family reaching the gurdwara, sometimes with the dhol, and the bride's family waiting.
The ardas
Both families standing for a short ardas before the meetings begin, in many weddings with a shabad sung first.
The fathers' milni
The first and usually most important pair, embracing and exchanging garlands.
Gifts
In many families each relative on the bride's side gives his counterpart a gift such as a blanket, a shawl or money.
The playful lift
A relative lifting the other off the ground, a moment of laughter families love.
Women's milni
In some families the women of both sides also meet in pairs; mention it if this family did.
What happens at the milni, in order
Practice differs between families and gurdwaras. Check the order on the morning and note any changes.
1. The baraat arrives
The groom and his family reach the gurdwara or venue, usually in the morning before the Anand Karaj.
2. Ardas and shabad
An ardas is said, and the ragis often sing a shabad, before the families meet.
3. The pairs meet
Relatives with matching roles on each side, such as fathers, maternal uncles, paternal uncles, brothers and grandfathers, embrace and garland each other, usually in order of seniority.
4. Tea and the ceremony
After the milni, guests are often served tea and snacks before going into the darbar hall for the Anand Karaj.
Names come from you
Every preference answer is optional and can be up to 2,000 characters, which is enough to list every milni pair; nothing is assumed for questions you skip.
Your original audio
The shabad and the laughter stay as you recorded them, with music alongside, balanced by your audio preference.

What is the milni?
The milni is the Sikh and Punjabi ceremony in which the families of the bride and the groom formally meet before the wedding, with relatives of matching roles embracing and exchanging garlands in turn.
It is not the Anand Karaj, which follows it inside the gurdwara, and not the baraat procession that comes before. Hindu Punjabi families also hold a milni, often in the evening at the bride's venue.
Milni highlight questions
Can the milni be its own highlight?
Yes. Create a separate project for it and upload only its footage. WeddingEditor's AI editing makes one edit, a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
How will WeddingEditor know the order of the pairs?
From your list. Write each pair in order with their roles and outfits, and the AI editing follows it.
Can the milni and the Anand Karaj share one project?
Yes, for one film of both. If each should have its own film, use two projects, each with its own purchase or credit.
Some pairs were blocked by the crowd. What can the AI editing does?
Only use what you filmed. Point the edit to the angle where each pair is clearest, and mark any pair with no usable clip so they know.
Where does the finished milni film go?
Into your project, where you watch and download it. WeddingEditor never sends anything to the couple.
Who decides the order and pairing of the milni for the film?
The families. WeddingEditor does not set cultural or family protocol; it edits your milni footage in the order and with the names you give in the preferences.
