Marathi wedding video editing, from the halad to the saptapadi
Many Marathi weddings move fast on the wedding day itself. The ceremony is commonly timed to a muhurta chosen by the family priest, often in the morning or around midday in a mangal karyalaya, and its best known moment lasts only as long as the mangalashtak: an antarpat cloth is held between the bride and groom, the verses are sung, guests shower akshata, and the cloth drops for the exchange of garlands. With WeddingEditor you upload the footage as one project or one per event, say which people and rituals matter, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
The sanai, the mangalashtak and every ukhana stay as your microphones recorded them. Music supports them at the balance your audio preference sets.

How to get a Marathi wedding edited
- 1
Upload the days you covered
A Marathi wedding can leave you with a sakharpuda weeks earlier, a halad the day before, the ceremony at the karyalaya, a griha pravesh at the groom's home and a reception in the evening. Put the whole run in one project for a single highlight, or split out an event such as the sakharpuda or the reception into its own project. Add the cards from every camera as they are; files upload in the browser, each up to 5 GB, with no cap on how many.
- 2
Write the brief only you can write
WeddingEditor did not stand in the karyalaya with you, so the optional questions carry the details: which aunt is the bride's mami, who sang the mangalashtak, the order of the rituals, the ukhane worth keeping. Choose how much of the priest's chanting and the speeches you want to hear, and list anything the family wants left out. Skip a question and nothing is guessed for it.
- 3
Start processing and review
After checkout with One Wedding or a plan credit, processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Every full edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing and lands in your project, where you watch it and download a widescreen 1080p MP4. You get up to two rounds of revisions on that same edit, requested by email from the link in the app.
Preference notes for a Marathi wedding
Notes like these give the edit something specific to look for in a family it has never met.
Who to feature
"Bride: green paithani nauvari with a nath and chandrakor at the ceremony, yellow saree at the Gauri Harihar puja. Groom: cream kurta and saffron pheta. Please feature the bride's mama, white shirt and Gandhi cap, who brings her to the antarpat."
The antarpat moment
"Must include: the antarpat held up by the priests, the bride and groom on either side with mundavalya on their foreheads, the akshata thrown during the last verse, the cloth dropping, and the garland exchange right after."
Speeches and voices
"More speeches and voices. The bride's cousin sang two of the mangalashtak verses herself, so keep her voice. Also keep the groom's ukhana at the griha pravesh, where everyone laughed."
Halad and the day before
"At the halad the groom's sisters put turmeric on him first, then the leftover halad went to the bride's side. Show both homes if you can find them, and the yellow faces afterwards."
Varat and arrival
"The dhol-tasha group outside the hall was loud and long. Keep a short burst of it, and the groom's friends dancing in pink pheta, but do not let it take over the film."
Leave out
"Avoid the dining hall queue and the stage with the photographer's lights in shot. The bride's father asked that his cousin in the grey safari suit not be featured."
What Marathi wedding footage usually holds
This is a general picture. Customs differ between families, regions of Maharashtra, castes and communities, and between Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Christian and Muslim Marathi families.
Events before the wedding
Many families hold a sakharpuda (the formal engagement) some time before, kelvan meals hosted by relatives for the bride and the groom, and a halad the day before or the morning of the wedding, where turmeric paste is applied by married women of the family.
A ceremony built around a muhurta
The wedding rituals are commonly timed to an auspicious muhurta. Before it, the bride often performs a Gauri Harihar puja, and the groom's party is welcomed by the bride's family. The mangalashtak, the antarpat, the kanyadaan and the saptapadi beside the sacred fire follow in the order the priest sets.
Clothes and adornments to name
Brides often wear a nauvari or a paithani saree with a nath, a crescent chandrakor on the forehead and green glass bangles; grooms often wear a pheta. Both commonly tie mundavalya, strings of pearls or flowers, across the forehead. These details help the edit tell people apart in a crowded hall.
Sound that carries meaning
The mangalashtak verses, the priests' Sanskrit chanting, the sanai, and the ukhane (rhyming lines in which the bride or groom works in the other's name) are all things families want to hear later. Most of it is live, so it is in your camera audio.
One edit for each project
Each project ends in a single edit, either a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser. A separate film of the sakharpuda or the reception needs its own project and its own purchase or plan credit.
What you get back
The finished edit keeps the recorded sound and sets music beside it by your audio preference. You watch it in the app, download the MP4, and can finish it further in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro before you send anything to the couple.
Marathi wedding events and what to write in the preferences
| Event | What to film or flag | A preference note for it |
|---|---|---|
| Sakharpuda | Both families exchanging gifts, the sugar given by the groom's side, a saree for the bride, the rings | "Feature the groom's mother placing the saree in the bride's hands." |
| Halad | Turmeric paste applied to the bride or groom by married women, songs, a lot of yellow | "Keep the women singing and the bride's grandmother applying the first halad." |
| Gauri Harihar puja | The bride, often in a yellow saree, praying quietly before the ceremony | "One calm shot of the puja before the rush starts." |
| Antarpat and mangalashtak | The cloth held between the couple, the verses sung, akshata thrown, the cloth lowered, the garlands | "Must include the cloth dropping and both faces right after." |
| Kanyadaan and saptapadi | The bride's parents giving her hand, the seven steps beside the fire | "Show the bride's parents at the kanyadaan, then all seven steps briefly." |
| Griha pravesh | The bride entering the groom's home, in many families tipping over a measure of rice at the threshold, the ukhane | "Keep the rice kick at the door and the bride's ukhana." |
| Reception | The couple on stage, guests coming up to bless them, dinner, sometimes dancing | "Mostly the couple; skip the long line of stage photos." |
What is a Marathi wedding video edit?
A Marathi wedding video edit cuts the footage of a Maharashtrian wedding, or one of its events, into a short film the couple can keep and share. With WeddingEditor it is a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, built from the footage you upload, shaped by the people and rituals you name, and made by WeddingEditor's AI editing.
Marathi describes a language and a culture, not a single religion or rite. A Marathi Buddhist wedding, a Marathi Christian wedding and a Marathi Hindu wedding look and sound different, and Konkani families on the same coast have customs of their own.
Marathi wedding editing questions
Can the antarpat and mangalashtak be the center of the highlight?
Yes, if you say so. Write it into the question about moments that must be included, describe who held the cloth and who sang, and pick "Ceremony & vows" in the priorities question. The AI editing follows that brief.
Can I get a separate film of the sakharpuda?
Yes. Make a project for the sakharpuda alone and upload only that footage. It produces its own Highlight Reel or Social Teaser, separate from the wedding project, and uses its own purchase or plan credit.
Will the ukhane be audible in the edit?
They can be, as long as your microphones caught them. The edit keeps the sound recorded in your footage, so name the ukhane you want kept in the speeches and voices question, with roughly when each was said.
Can WeddingEditor put a Marathi song over the film?
Not a song you name. The edit uses the sanai, the singing and the band as recorded, with music in support by your audio preference. If the couple wants a particular song, add licensed music yourself after downloading, in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
The karyalaya was crowded and dark in places. Does that matter?
The edit can only use what you filmed, so clear shots of the couple matter more than coverage of every corner. Use the avoid question to steer away from clips where the hall lights or other photographers block the view.
My second shooter covered the groom's side. Can they upload directly?
Yes, if they are signed in to your WeddingEditor team. WeddingEditor sets up a team upload link for teammates, so their files land in the same wedding project as yours.
How much does one Marathi wedding edit cost?
One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding; plan subscribers spend one credit per project instead. Up to two email revision rounds are included either way.
