Your Kerala engagement, edited into a highlight of its own
A Kerala engagement looks different in each community. Many Hindu families hold a nischayam, where the two families formally agree the match and fix the wedding date, often with a ring exchange. Many Christian families hold a betrothal in church, with prayers led by the priest and rings blessed and exchanged. Muslim families mark the engagement in their own ways, sometimes as a small family gathering. To get a highlight of it, upload the engagement as its own WeddingEditor project, describe the tradition and the people, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
Practice varies by family, community and church. Ask what the engagement will include before you film it.

How to get a Kerala engagement highlight
- 1
Upload the engagement on its own
Create a project just for the engagement and add the files from each camera: the families arriving, the church service or the home ceremony, the rings, the photographs and any lunch or party afterwards. The wedding can go into its own project later, with its own edit.
- 2
Describe the tradition and the families
Start your notes with the tradition, for example "Hindu nischayam at the bride's home" or "betrothal at the parish church". Then name the parents, the elder who spoke for each family and the priest if there was one, and list the moments that must be in, such as the rings.
- 3
Receive the edit and send notes
Start processing with One Wedding or a plan credit, and expect the engagement film typically 24 to 72 hours later. Once ready, the highlight appears in your project to watch and download as a 1080p MP4, with up to two email revision rounds included.
Moments of a Kerala engagement to list
Pick the ones that fit the family's tradition and write them in order. If the engagement mixed customs, for example a church betrothal followed by a lunch at home, list both parts so the edit sees the whole shape of the day.
The families meeting
The groom's family welcomed by the bride's, at home, in a hall or at the church door, elders greeting each other first.
Fixing the date (Hindu)
Elders or an astrologer confirming the auspicious date and time for the wedding, and the families formally agreeing, at many Hindu nischayams.
The betrothal prayers (Christian)
The priest leading prayers in church and blessing the couple, in many parishes with the rings blessed before they are exchanged.
The rings
The couple exchanging rings, often the moment both families crowd forward for photographs.
Gifts
In many families, a saree or jewelry given to the bride by the groom's family, and gifts exchanged between the households.
The meal
Lunch together afterwards, a sadya at many Hindu engagements or a meal in a hall, where the families mix for the first time.
What happens at a Kerala engagement, in order
A common shape across communities. Many families combine, skip or rename these parts.
1. The families gather
The engagement brings the two families together formally, often for the first time in a large group, at the bride's home, a hall or a church.
2. The agreement
At a Hindu nischayam the families confirm the match and the wedding date, often fixed after comparing horoscopes. At a Christian betrothal the couple's consent is given before the priest. Muslim families have their own customs and may keep the engagement small.
3. Rings and gifts
Many couples in all three communities exchange rings, and gifts such as a saree or jewelry pass between the families.
4. A shared meal
A meal usually follows, a sadya on banana leaves at many Hindu engagements or a lunch or dinner in a hall, and photographs with each family group.
One edit for the engagement
The engagement is its own project and gets one edit, a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, separate from the wedding.
Prayers and speeches as recorded
WeddingEditor keeps the audio from your footage, with music only in support, so the priest's prayers or the elders' words are heard as your microphones caught them.
Parts of a Kerala engagement and what to write in the preferences
Most Kerala engagements are short and family-centered, so the brief matters most for names: who is who among the elders and which grandparents the couple will look for.
| Part of the engagement | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | The families greeting at the door or the church | "Open on both fathers shaking hands." |
| Agreement or prayers | Elders speaking at home, or the priest's prayers in church | "Keep the priest's blessing, briefly, with sound." |
| Rings | The couple facing each other, applause | "Both rings going on, close." |
| Gifts | A saree or jewelry presented to the bride | "Feature the groom's mother giving the saree." |
| Meal | Banana leaves or a hall lunch, families mixing | "A few seconds of the sadya being served." |
| Photographs | Each family group with the couple | "Include the grandparents' photo." |
What is a Kerala engagement?
A Kerala engagement is the event at which two families formally agree to a marriage, as a nischayam in many Hindu families, a betrothal in church in many Christian families, or a family gathering in many Muslim families, often with rings exchanged. A Kerala engagement highlight is a short edit of that event made from the footage you upload as its own project.
It is not the wedding itself, the thali, the minnu or the nikah. In some Christian parishes the betrothal is a church rite in its own right, so treat it as a ceremony when you film and brief it, not only a party.
Kerala engagement video questions
Can I edit the engagement before the wedding has happened?
Yes. Upload, pay and start processing as soon as the engagement is filmed; the wedding goes into a separate project later.
The betrothal was in church. Can the prayers stay in?
Yes, as recorded. Choose More speeches & voices in the audio question and name the blessing you want heard.
The Hindu nischayam was mostly elders talking. Will it make a good highlight?
It can, if you guide it. Ask for Family & reactions as the priority, name the moments when the date was agreed and the rings exchanged, and let the rest be brief.
Can the edit leave out guests who did not want to be filmed?
Yes. Describe them in the avoid question by clothing and position, and the edit will avoid them where your angles allow.
Can I finish the engagement edit with my own titles?
Yes. Download the MP4 and add titles or music in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
The engagement and the wedding were on the same weekend. Should they share a project?
That depends on the films the couple want. If they want one highlight of the weekend, upload both to one project and say how much of each to use. If they want the engagement as its own keepsake, give it a separate project and a separate edit.
What does a Kerala engagement highlight cost?
An engagement is billed like any wedding project: buy One Wedding, $119 one-time for one wedding, or spend a single credit from your monthly plan.
