The cord and veil rite, edited as its own short film
The cord and veil is a rite many Filipino Catholic couples include in their church wedding, together with the candle and the coins (arras). Secondary sponsors, often pairs of relatives or close friends, pin a white veil over the bride's head and the groom's shoulder, then lay a cord, often looped in the shape of a figure eight, over both of them, as signs of being joined and covered together. To get a highlight of it, upload only that part of the ceremony as its own WeddingEditor project, name the sponsors and moments in the preference questions, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.
The rite is short and happens in the middle of a longer liturgy. The more precisely you mark it, the easier it is to find.

How to get a highlight of the cord and veil
- 1
Upload the rite as its own project
Create a project for the sponsors' rite alone and upload the clips from the part of the ceremony that holds it: the candle lighting if it was part of the same set, the arras, the veil, the cord, and the sponsors returning to their seats. Add every angle you had, including the side or balcony camera, without renaming anything.
- 2
Name the sponsors and the order
In the people question, describe each sponsor pair by role and clothing, for example "veil sponsors: the bride's cousin Ana in a blush gown and her husband in a barong". In the moments question, list the order the parish used, since practice varies, and say whether the moment the sponsors remove the veil and cord later in the Mass should be included.
- 3
Receive it and refine
Pay or apply a credit and start processing; it typically takes 24 to 72 hours. Watch the film in your project and download the MP4. If a sponsor pair is missing, send notes by email for one of your up to two revision rounds.
Moments of the cord and veil to list
Write these into the moments question in the order they happened in your ceremony.
Candle sponsors
In many weddings, the candle sponsors light the candles on either side of the couple, often near the start of the ceremony. Include them if the couple wants all the sponsors in one film.
The arras
The coin sponsors handing the arras, commonly thirteen coins, to the priest to bless, and the groom pouring them into the bride's cupped hands.
The veil pinned
The veil sponsors draping the veil over the bride's head and the groom's shoulder and pinning it in place, often with a small adjustment and a smile.
The cord laid
The cord sponsors placing the cord over the couple's shoulders, in many weddings in a figure-eight loop, while the couple kneels or sits.
The couple under veil and cord
A held shot of the couple joined by the veil and cord during the prayers that follow, often the image families frame afterwards.
The removal
Later in the liturgy, the sponsors lifting the cord and veil off the couple, if your footage covers it.
What happens at the cord and veil, in order
This is a common shape. Parishes and families differ in when each part happens, so confirm the order with the couple or the parish.
1. Sponsors called forward
After the vows and rings in many ceremonies, the secondary sponsors come forward in pairs. Each pair has a role: candle, veil, cord or coin.
2. The arras and the blessing
The arras is blessed and given by the groom to the bride as a pledge of care for the household. In some weddings it comes before the veil and cord, in others after.
3. The veil
The veil is laid over the bride's head and the groom's shoulder and pinned, commonly explained as the couple being clothed as one.
4. The cord
The cord, often white or silver and sometimes made like a rosary, is placed over the couple's shoulders, often in a figure-eight loop, as a sign of an unbreakable bond. The couple usually stays under veil and cord for part of the liturgy before the sponsors remove them.
A highlight of the rite, not the Mass
WeddingEditor makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser from what you upload. A full record of the ceremony around the rite is yours to cut.
The church's sound
The choir, the priest's prayers and any music played during the rite can be heard as your cameras caught them, with music in support as your audio preference sets.
Parts of the cord and veil and what to put in the preferences
| Part of the rite | What it looks or sounds like | Preference note |
|---|---|---|
| Candle lighting | Two sponsors lighting tall candles beside the couple | "Candle sponsors: the groom's aunt and uncle, both in cream." |
| Arras | Coins on a tray blessed, then poured from the groom's hands to the bride's | "Close shot of the coins falling; keep the sound." |
| Veil | A white veil draped and pinned across both of them | "Veil sponsors are her godparents; show them pinning it." |
| Cord | A looped cord placed over their shoulders while they kneel | "Show the figure eight from the side camera." |
| Under veil and cord | The couple joined during the prayers that follow | "Hold on them kneeling under the veil and cord." |
| Removal | Sponsors lifting the cord and veil later in the liturgy | "Include the removal if the angle is clear." |
What is the cord and veil?
The cord and veil is part of the sponsor rites at many Filipino Catholic weddings, in which secondary sponsors cover the couple with a veil and join them with a cord as signs of unity and of a lasting bond. A cord and veil highlight is a short edit of that rite and its sponsors, made from the footage you upload.
It is not the vows or the exchange of rings, which come before it. It is related to the Mexican lazo, a cord or rosary placed over the couple, but the Filipino rite adds the veil and usually separate sponsors for each part.
Cord and veil video questions
Can I get a highlight of just the cord and veil?
Yes. Put only the clips of the sponsors' rite into a project, and WeddingEditor makes that project's one edit from them. The rest of the wedding can go into a separate project.
The candle and coin sponsors came before the veil. Should I include them?
That is up to the couple. Many treat the candle, coins, veil and cord as one set of sponsor rites, so upload all four if they want every sponsor pair in the film, and list them in order.
How will WeddingEditor know which sponsors held the veil?
Only from your notes. Describe each pair by name, relationship and clothing in the people question; each answer can be up to 2,000 characters.
Our parish asked us to stay at the side during the rite. Is that enough?
It can be. The cord and veil read well from the side, since the loop and the veil show across the couple's shoulders. Say which camera had that angle.
What if the cord fell off during the Mass?
If the couple would rather not see it, mention it in the avoid question and the edit will leave it out of the film.
How do I pay for a cord and veil highlight?
Buy One Wedding or use a plan credit for the project before processing starts. It typically takes 24 to 72 hours, with no guaranteed turnaround.
