7 best video editing apps for weddings, compared (October 2026)
By WeddingEditor team, Makers of WeddingEditor · Facts checked 2026-10-11
If you want to edit a wedding yourself, DaVinci Resolve is the best app for most people: it is free to download and covers editing, color and audio in one tool. Final Cut Pro is the pick on a Mac or iPad. If you would rather not edit the wedding at all, WeddingEditor's AI editing takes the raw footage and returns a finished Highlight Reel or Social Teaser. Filmora, CapCut, Kapwing and Clipchamp suit lighter or shorter edits. We compared these seven from their own published information; we did not test the other six.
WeddingEditor makes one of the products in this ranking. How we compared, and where that bias shows, is explained below.

What counts as a video editing app for weddings
A video editing app for weddings is any tool a person uses to turn the footage from a wedding day into something worth watching: a highlight film, a teaser, a clip of the speeches or a short social piece. Most of them are general editors, which means the work of reviewing every clip, choosing moments and building a story stays with you. A smaller group is made for weddings and takes over part of that work, either by preparing a draft timeline or, in WeddingEditor's case, by returning a finished AI edit made from your raw files.
Not the same as a wedding slideshow maker or a video template pack. Those start from photos or a fixed layout; the apps here work from real footage.
How we compared
WeddingEditor wrote this page, and WeddingEditor is one of the products on it. That is a bias, so we set rules we can be held to. Every statement about another product comes from that product's own public page, checked on October 11, 2026, and is linked in the sources at the end. We did not buy, install or test the other six apps, so this page ranks how well each one's published features fit a wedding editor's needs, not the quality of their output.
We started from the apps that appear when people search for the best video editing app for a wedding, and kept those with a public product page we could read. Adobe Premiere Pro was considered but is not ranked, because its pages blocked automated reading and we could not cite current facts.
WeddingEditor's own entry uses the same format as the others, including its limits, and is drawn from our product records. We placed it third, not first, because an editing app is something you edit in, and WeddingEditor does not give you a timeline to edit. Prices and features change; we re-check every price by November 10, 2026.

The apps, ranked
DaVinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve is the strongest fit when the person searching wants to cut the wedding themselves and keep every creative decision. Blackmagic Design describes it as one tool that combines editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics, audio post production and photo editing, and it offers a free download, with the paid DaVinci Resolve Studio listed at $295. For a wedding videographer that means the speeches, the color, the sound mix and the music all happen in one project. Blackmagic also says its cut page is designed for projects with tight deadlines, which matters when a couple is waiting. The cost is time and skill: nothing is assembled for you, so every clip from every camera still has to be reviewed, chosen and placed by hand.
- Editing, color, effects, motion graphics and audio post in one tool, per Blackmagic Design
- A free download, with a paid Studio version
- A cut page that Blackmagic says is built for tight deadlines
- Project libraries that support local and remote collaboration
- You do the whole edit yourself; nothing is assembled for you
- Learning the full tool takes real time before a wedding goes faster
Price: Free download; DaVinci Resolve Studio $295 (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is Apple's editor for Mac and iPad, and Apple says its AI features build on Apple Intelligence. For a videographer who already works on Apple hardware, it is a full editing application that keeps the edit in your hands, much like DaVinci Resolve. Apple lists it as a one-time purchase of $299.99 for Mac, or as part of Apple Creator Studio at $12.99 a month or $129 a year after a 30-day free trial, and it requires a Mac with Apple silicon. That hardware requirement is the main reason it sits below Resolve here: a wedding editor on Windows cannot use it at all.
- A full editing app for Mac and iPad from Apple
- AI features that Apple says build on Apple Intelligence
- A one-time purchase option or a monthly or yearly plan with a 30-day free trial
- Requires a Mac with Apple silicon, so it is not an option on Windows
- As with any editor, you still cut the whole wedding yourself
Price: One-time $299.99 for Mac, or Apple Creator Studio $12.99 a month or $129 a year (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
WeddingEditor
WeddingEditor is not an editing app in the same sense as the two above, and it is ranked third for that reason. It is a web app built for wedding videographers: you create a project, choose a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, and upload the raw video and audio from every camera in the browser without renaming or pre-selecting clips. Optional preference questions let you describe the feel of the film, the balance of speech and sound, and the people and moments that matter most. After you pay or use a plan credit, WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the edit, guided by those answers. Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours, with no guaranteed time, and you download a 1080p H.264 MP4 with up to two revision rounds included. It wins on effort, not on control: there is no in-app timeline to change the cut yourself.
- A Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser per wedding project
- Upload every camera's raw files in the browser, with no renaming or culling first
- Preference answers that guide the AI editing
- Up to two revision rounds by email on every full edit
- No in-app editing: changes go through the included revision rounds (up to two)
- 1080p widescreen only, with no 4K or vertical version
- No project file to rework in an editing app
- Typically 24 to 72 hours, never same day
Price: $119 one-time for one wedding; plans from $99 per month (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
Wondershare Filmora
Filmora is Wondershare's AI video editor for creators. It is a general editor rather than a wedding tool, so it fits someone who wants an approachable desktop app for a family wedding or an early paid job. Wondershare's shop lists Basic at US$49.99 a year, Advanced at US$59.99 a year and a Perpetual license at US$79.99 one time, each shown down from a higher list price. It sits below WeddingEditor here because, like the full editors, it leaves the wedding edit to you, and it documents less depth for long multi-camera days than Resolve or Final Cut.
- A creator-focused AI video editor, per Wondershare
- Yearly plans and a one-time perpetual license
- General purpose; nothing in its listing is specific to weddings
- You still review and cut every clip yourself
Price: Basic US$49.99 a year, Advanced US$59.99 a year, Perpetual US$79.99 one time (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
CapCut
CapCut describes itself as an AI video editor and creative suite online, with AI video generation, text to speech and image tools. For weddings it suits short social pieces assembled quickly from a handful of clips. Its pricing page lists credit-based AI generation priced per second, for example for video generation models, rather than a plan built around editing a whole wedding. It ranks here because it is fast for small pieces but documents nothing about handling a full day of footage from several cameras.
- Online AI editor with generation, text to speech and image tools
- Credit-based AI generation priced per second on its pricing page
- Built around short social content, not a full wedding film
- AI generation is billed per second of output, per its pricing page
Price: Credit-based AI generation priced per second (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
Kapwing
Kapwing is a browser editor for clips, captions, resizing and translation into more than 40 languages, with AI tools on top. Like WeddingEditor it runs in the browser, but you do the editing yourself. Kapwing lists a Free tier with 10 credits, Pro at $16 per member a month billed annually ($24 monthly) with 1,000 credits, and Business at $50 billed annually ($64 monthly) with 4,000 credits. It fits shorter wedding pieces, translated captions for guests abroad, and teams that already edit in the browser.
- Browser-based editing with captions, resizing and translation into 40+ languages
- A free tier with 10 credits, plus Pro and Business plans
- You do the editing; no wedding assembly is described
- Credits limit how much AI work each plan covers
Price: Free (10 credits); Pro $16 per member a month billed annually or $24 monthly; Business $50 annually or $64 monthly (as of 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
Microsoft Clipchamp
Clipchamp is Microsoft's online video editor for recording, editing and sharing HD video with AI tools. Microsoft lists AI captions in over 80 languages and tools that remove background noise, pauses, silences and filler words. That makes it handy for trimming a toast or tidying a short clip, but it is a light editor, and our record holds no published price for it, so it sits last on this list.
- Online editor by Microsoft with AI captions in 80+ languages
- Removes background noise, pauses, silences and filler words
- A light editor rather than a tool for a full wedding film
- No price captured in our record; check Microsoft's site
Price: Not captured in our record (checked 2026-10-11) (checked 2026-10-11)
Considered, not ranked
- Adobe Premiere Pro: Its product and plan pages could not be read for current, citable facts when we checked.
- Captions: Built around AI creation for social clips and AI actors rather than editing a wedding's footage.

What to check before you choose
Decide whether you want to edit at all
The biggest split is not between apps but between doing the edit and handing it off. If you enjoy the cut, a full editor pays back the learning time. If the edit is the part you keep postponing, an editing app will not change that.
Count your cameras and hours of footage
Short clip editors are pleasant for a toast or a reel and painful for a full day from two or three cameras. Look for features or workflows that are explicitly about long, multi-camera material.
Check where the final color and music happen
Some tools leave color and music entirely to you. WeddingEditor balances original sound and music by your audio preference and works toward one consistent look across cameras.
Match the app to your computer
Final Cut Pro needs a Mac with Apple silicon. Browser tools run anywhere a browser does. Desktop editors can be heavy on older machines.
Read the price model, not just the number
A one-time license, a monthly plan, a credit pack and a per-wedding price behave very differently over a season. Work out what one wedding costs you under each.
Questions
What is the best video editing app for a wedding?
For editing the wedding yourself, DaVinci Resolve fits most people because it is free to download and combines editing, color and audio. On a Mac with Apple silicon, Final Cut Pro is the alternative. If you want the edit made for you instead, WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel or Social Teaser from your raw footage.
Is there a free app for editing wedding videos?
Yes. DaVinci Resolve is a free download, and Kapwing has a free tier with 10 credits. WeddingEditor lets you create an account for free, but each wedding edit is paid, so it is not a free editor.
Can WeddingEditor replace my editing app?
Not completely. It returns a finished 1080p MP4, and changes go through up to two revision rounds by email rather than an in-app timeline. Many videographers bring the MP4 into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro to add music, color or titles.
Which app is best for wedding reels for Instagram?
CapCut and Kapwing are built for short social pieces. WeddingEditor's Social Teaser is delivered in widescreen 1080p, with no vertical version, so you would crop it yourself for a vertical reel.
Did you test these apps?
No. We compared the other six from their own public pages on October 11, 2026. Only WeddingEditor's entry draws on our own product records, and we say so in its entry.
Can I trust a ranking written by a company on the list?
Treat it with care. We disclose the bias at the top, rank WeddingEditor below two editors because it is not an editing app, give every entry the same format, and link every source so you can check the facts yourself.
