# The pellikuthuru, as a film of its own

The pellikuthuru is the ceremony at the bride's family home that makes her the bride, commonly held the day before the wedding or on its morning. Married women of the family apply turmeric and oil, she is given a ritual bath and dressed in a new saree, and in many families green glass bangles are slipped onto her wrists, red paste is applied to her feet, a black dot is placed on her cheek against the evil eye and the elders bless her with rice. Upload the pellikuthuru footage as its own WeddingEditor project, name the women and moments in the preference questions, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser from it.

Names, timing and details vary by family, region and community. Agree with the bride's family what to film.

## How to get a pellikuthuru highlight

1. **Create a project for the bride's ceremony** Pick Highlight Reel or Social Teaser, then upload the clips from the bride's home: the preparations, the turmeric, the bath if the family wants it filmed, the dressing, the bangles and the blessings. Bring in every camera's files without trimming them; there is no limit on how many.
2. **Name the women who lead it** The pellikuthuru is often run by the women of the family, and the edit depends on finding them. Describe the bride's mother, aunts, grandmothers and sisters by what they wore and what they did, list the moments in order, and choose whether songs and voices or quiet looks should lead.
3. **Receive, download and comment** Use One Wedding or a plan credit to start processing, which typically takes 24 to 72 hours. The edit is delivered to your project. Watch it, download the MP4, and if something is off, email notes from the app; up to two revision rounds are included.

## Moments of the pellikuthuru to list

List only what happened, in the order it happened.

- **The bride seated**: The bride on a decorated low seat, in a simple saree, with turmeric, oil, flowers and bangles laid out around her.
- **Turmeric from the women**: Her mother, aunts and other married women applying turmeric paste to her face, arms and feet, often singing or teasing.
- **Red on her feet**: In many families, red paste, often called parani, is painted around the edges of her feet.
- **Glass bangles**: Green glass bangles slipped onto her wrists, sometimes by a bangle seller called to the house, a moment many brides want close up.
- **The new saree**: The bride returning after the bath in a new saree, often silk, and the family's first look at her as the pellikuthuru.
- **Dot and blessings**: A dot of kohl on her cheek against the evil eye, arati in many families, and rice sprinkled over her head by the elders.

## What happens at a pellikuthuru, in order

A common sequence. Families keep some parts and drop others.

- **1. The bride is seated**: The ceremony usually happens at home, with the bride seated among the women of the family and plates of turmeric, oil, kumkum, flowers and bangles ready beside her.
- **2. Turmeric and oil**: Married women apply turmeric and oil, and in many families red paste to her feet. It is a relaxed, crowded ritual, full of songs and joking.
- **3. Bath, saree and bangles**: After the mangala snanam she is dressed in a new saree, and glass bangles, often green, are put on her wrists. Brides often keep these bangles on through the wedding.
- **4. Protection and blessing**: A black dot is placed on her cheek, arati is performed in many families, and elders shower rice on her head to bless her.
- **Its own deliverable**: Uploaded to its own project, the pellikuthuru becomes one edit: a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, separate from the wedding film.
- **Songs as you recorded them**: If the women sang, keep that at the heart of the film: choose more speeches and voices in the audio preference, and music will stay in support of the songs captured in your footage.

## Parts of the pellikuthuru and what to write in the preferences

| Part of the ceremony | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Seating | The bride surrounded by women of the family, plates of turmeric and bangles nearby | "Bride in a yellow cotton saree; feature her grandmother on her left." |
| Nalugu | Turmeric and oil applied, songs, teasing, turmeric on everyone's hands | "Keep the women's song audible." |
| Parani | Red paste painted around her feet | "Close view of the parani being applied." |
| Bangles | Green glass bangles slipped onto her wrists one by one | "Must include the bangles; her aunt in orange puts them on." |
| New saree | The bride reappearing dressed, the family reacting | "Hold on her mother's reaction." |
| Dot and blessings | Kohl dot, lamp, rice showered by elders | "End on her grandparents blessing her." |

## What is the pellikuthuru?

Pellikuthuru means bride in Telugu, and the word also names the ceremony at the bride's home that prepares her for the wedding with turmeric, a ritual bath, a new saree, bangles and blessings. A pellikuthuru highlight is a short WeddingEditor edit of that ceremony only.

Not the same as: It is not the pellikoduku, the groom's equivalent at his own home, and not a mehndi evening, which some Telugu families also hold. It is close in spirit to a haldi but has its own name and customs.

## Pellikuthuru video questions

### Can the pellikuthuru open the main wedding highlight instead?

Yes. Put its footage in the wedding project and say how much of it to use as the opening. Give it its own project only if the family wants a separate film.

### How do I get the bangles moment in close up?

The edit can only use shots you filmed, so get a close angle on the day. Then name the moment and the person putting the bangles on in the preferences, and point to the camera that caught it.

### The family asked me not to show the bath. How do I make sure it stays out?

Write it in the avoid question, for example "no footage of the bath at all", or simply leave those clips out before you check out. Every file must finish uploading or be deliberately left out before payment.

### There was also a mehndi evening. Does it belong in the same project?

Only if you want one film covering both. Otherwise give the mehndi its own project; each project produces a single edit.

### Can I change the pellikuthuru edit after I see it?

Yes, within up to two revision rounds. Email your notes from the link in your project and the same edit is revised.
