# A nalangu highlight full of the games, the songs and the laughter

Nalangu is the lighthearted part of many Tamil weddings: after the solemn rites, the couple sit facing each other on a mat while relatives set them small games, such as rolling a coconut back and forth, cracking an appalam over each other's heads or hunting for a ring in a pot of water, and the women sing teasing nalangu songs. To get a highlight of it, upload the nalangu footage as its own WeddingEditor project, name the games and the cousins who ran them, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

Many families hold the nalangu after the wedding rites, and some also hold a turmeric nalangu for the bride or groom before the wedding. Which games are played varies from family to family.

## How to get a nalangu highlight

1. **Upload just the nalangu** Create a project for the nalangu and add the clips from every camera, from the couple sitting down to the last game and the photographs afterwards. The games are quick and happen in a tight circle, so a second angle helps; a teammate signed in to your WeddingEditor team can add theirs through a team upload link.
2. **Name the games and the players** List the games in the order they were played and say who won each, if the couple will care. Describe the aunts who led the singing and the cousins egging on each side. Pick Fun & energetic for the feel, and choose how much of the songs and the laughter you want to hear.
3. **Receive, watch and revise** Pay with One Wedding or a plan credit and start processing; expect it typically to take 24 to 72 hours. WeddingEditor's AI editing delivers the finished edit to your project. Watch it there, download the 1080p MP4, and send up to two rounds of notes by email if a game is missing.

## Moments of the nalangu to list

Write these in the moments question in the order they happened, and skip the ones this family did not play.

- **The paste on the feet**: Each partner applying nalangu paste, a mix such as turmeric and kumkum, to the other's feet, often with shy laughter as the first game begins.
- **The coconut**: The couple rolling a coconut to each other, or one trying to snatch it from the other's hands, with each side shouting advice.
- **The appalam**: Breaking a crisp appalam over each other's heads, usually to a burst of laughter from everyone watching.
- **The ring in the pot**: Both hands in a narrow pot of water, searching for a ring; whoever finds it first is teased as the one who will lead the marriage.
- **The songs**: Women singing nalangu songs that tease the bride, the groom or their families, sometimes with lyrics made up on the spot.
- **The rolled flower ball**: In some families, a ball of flowers rolled or tossed between the couple, a gentle game that ends the round.

## What happens at the nalangu, in order

There is no fixed script. These are common parts, and families add or drop games freely.

- **1. Setting up**: The couple, still in their wedding clothes or a lighter change, sit on a mat or low seats facing each other, with relatives sitting in a ring close around them. It is often the first informal moment they share after the rites.
- **2. Paste, garlands and blessings**: The nalangu commonly starts with the couple applying paste to each other's feet, sometimes with sandalwood, rose water or flowers offered by the women of the family.
- **3. The games**: A run of short games follows, such as the coconut, the appalam, the ring in the pot and the flower ball, each lasting only a moment, each with a winner the cousins argue over.
- **4. Songs and teasing**: Throughout, women of both families sing nalangu songs, often playful and sometimes cheeky, and the audience reaction is as much part of the event as the couple.
- **A light, separate edit**: Because each project gives one edit, the nalangu can have its own Highlight Reel or Social Teaser while the muhurtham has another, each with its own purchase or plan credit.
- **Songs as you recorded them**: The edit keeps your recorded audio, so the nalangu songs and the laughter are heard as your cameras caught them, with music only in support.

## Parts of the nalangu and what to write in the preferences

| Part of the nalangu | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Sitting down | The couple on a mat, relatives packed around them | "Open wide so the circle of family is visible." |
| Paste on the feet | Turmeric and kumkum dabbed on, shy smiles | "Keep the groom's hesitation; the bride's aunts laughed." |
| Coconut | A coconut rolled or snatched, both sides shouting | "Show who won and the cousins' cheer." |
| Appalam | A crack over each head, crumbs, laughter | "Both cracks, the bride's first." |
| Ring in the pot | Hands in a pot of water, a triumphant fist | "Must include the moment she found the ring." |
| Songs | Women singing, clapping, joking between verses | "Keep one verse clearly; it names the groom's mother." |

## What is the nalangu?

The nalangu is a playful ritual in many Tamil weddings, made up of games and songs that help the couple relax with each other and bring the two families together in laughter. A nalangu highlight is a short edit of those games, made from the footage you upload as its own project.

Not the same as: It is not the thali tying or any of the solemn rites of the muhurtham. A pre-wedding nalangu, where turmeric is applied to the bride or groom by the women of the family, is closer to the haldi of North Indian weddings than to the after-wedding games.

## Nalangu video questions

### Is the nalangu before or after the wedding?

In many Tamil families the games come after the wedding rites, often the same afternoon or evening. Some families also hold a nalangu before the wedding, with turmeric applied to the bride or groom. Say which one you filmed.

### The games were quick. Can the highlight still run about 5 minutes?

It depends on how much you filmed. A short nalangu may suit a Social Teaser better, or you can include it in the muhurtham project rather than giving it a project of its own.

### Can the edit keep the teasing songs in?

Yes, as far as your cameras recorded them. Choose More speeches & voices in the audio question and name the verse you want heard most clearly.

### Some relatives asked not to be filmed during the games. What do I do?

Describe them in the avoid question, by clothing and position, for example "the man in the brown shirt at the left of the mat". The edit will steer clear of them where your angles allow.

### Can I add the nalangu clips to the main highlight instead?

Yes. Upload them into the wedding's Highlight Reel project and list one game as a closing moment. That uses one project and one edit rather than two.

### Is anything sent to the couple when the nalangu edit is ready?

No. WeddingEditor never sends anything to your couple. You watch and download the edit yourself and share it when you choose.

### What does a nalangu highlight cost?

One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding, or spend one credit from a monthly plan; either way up to two revision rounds are included.
