# A homecoming highlight, edited apart from the wedding day

In many Sri Lankan families, especially Sinhala ones, the wedding is followed a few days later by a homecoming. It is hosted by the groom's family and traditionally marked the bride's arrival into her new home; today it is often a second celebration in a hotel or at home, with the bride in a different, often brightly colored saree, toasts, a cake and dancing. Because it happens on another day and looks different, it often suits a film of its own. Upload the homecoming footage as its own WeddingEditor project, name the people and moments, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

Customs vary between families, and some couples combine the homecoming with the wedding or skip it. Ask what is planned.

## How to get a highlight of the homecoming

1. **Upload the homecoming alone** Create a project for the homecoming and upload its footage from every camera, from the couple arriving to the last dance. Keeping the wedding day out of this project means the edit stays about this celebration. All files must be uploaded, or deliberately left out, before checkout.
2. **Describe the couple and the hosts** Describe the bride's homecoming saree and the groom's outfit, since both usually differ from the wedding. Name the groom's parents as the hosts and any relatives who spoke or welcomed the couple. List the welcome, the toasts, the cake and the dancing as moments if they happened. If the bride's family gave a reply speech or a gift, list it too, since it shows both sides of the new family together.
3. **Pay, receive and revise** With One Wedding or a plan credit applied, the homecoming edit typically takes 24 to 72 hours. The edit then reaches your project. Download the 1080p MP4 and send up to two rounds of notes by email.

## Moments of the homecoming to list

Choose the ones that happened and put them in the moments question in order.

- **The couple's arrival**: The couple arriving together as a married pair, often welcomed by the groom's parents at the entrance, in some families with drummers or dancers.
- **The welcome at the door**: In some families the bride is formally welcomed into the groom's home or the hall with an oil lamp lit or a traditional greeting. Name who led it.
- **The new look**: The bride's homecoming saree, often in a strong color, and the groom in a suit or traditional dress. A few detail shots set this film apart from the wedding.
- **Toasts**: A toast from the groom's side, often by a friend or relative, and a reply from the couple. Name the speakers.
- **The cake**: Cutting the cake, and in many families the couple feeding each other a piece.
- **Dancing**: The couple's dance, then baila and pop with the band or DJ, with both families on the floor.

## What happens at a homecoming, in order

A common shape only. Each family plans its homecoming differently.

- **1. Hosted by the groom's family**: Where the wedding is often arranged by the bride's family, the homecoming is commonly hosted by the groom's family, a few days to a week or so after the wedding. The bride's family attends as guests.
- **2. Arrival and welcome**: The couple arrive together and are welcomed by the groom's parents. Some families keep a traditional welcome at the door or light an oil lamp; others start straight away with the party.
- **3. Toasts, cake and a meal**: Toasts to the couple, a cake cutting and a meal follow. A master of ceremonies often keeps things moving, and a band or DJ plays through the evening.
- **4. Dancing**: The couple usually dance first, and the floor fills with baila and popular songs. This is often livelier than the wedding reception, since the formal ceremony is behind everyone.
- **Its own project, its own edit**: Each project produces one edit, so a homecoming film is a separate project from the wedding, with its own purchase or plan credit.
- **The room's own sound**: The band, the MC and the toasts stay as you recorded them, with music in support. Choose "Mostly music-led" in the audio question if the evening's music should carry the film.

## Parts of the homecoming and what to write in the preferences

| Part of the event | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | The couple walking in together, the groom's parents waiting | "Bride in a red Kandyan saree; feature his parents at the door." |
| Welcome | An oil lamp or a traditional greeting in some families | "Keep the lamp lighting with both mothers." |
| Toasts | A friend or relative at the microphone, the room laughing | "Keep the groom's cousin's toast audible." |
| Cake | The couple cutting it, often feeding each other | "Must include the cake." |
| Meal | Buffet, families at tables | "Very little of the dinner." |
| Dancing | The couple's dance, then baila with the band | "End on the two families dancing together." |

## What is a Sri Lankan homecoming?

The homecoming is a celebration held after a Sri Lankan wedding, commonly by the groom's family, that traditionally marked the bride's arrival into her husband's family. A homecoming highlight is a short edit of that event, made from the footage you upload as its own project. Because it is a separate event, it can be uploaded and ordered whenever its footage is ready, independent of the wedding project.

Not the same as: It is not the wedding itself, with its poruwa or other ceremony, and not the going away at the end of the wedding day. It is closer to a reception, but hosted by the groom's side and held on a later day.

## Sri Lankan homecoming video questions

### Can the homecoming be edited separately from the wedding?

Yes. Upload the homecoming footage to its own project and it returns its own Highlight Reel or Social Teaser. The wedding day stays in a different project.

### The couple combined the homecoming with the wedding. What should I do?

Upload everything to one project and describe in the moments question which part belonged to which celebration. The result is one edit covering both.

### Will the band's baila be in the homecoming film?

If your cameras recorded it, yes. The edit uses your recorded sound with music alongside it. Mention which songs or dances matter in the moments question.

### How will WeddingEditor tell the bride's family from the groom's?

From your description. In the people question, name the hosts, the bride's parents and anyone else to feature, with what they wore that evening.

### Should the homecoming edit feel different from the wedding edit?

Many couples like that it does, because the outfits, the venue and the mood all change. Choose a different option in the feel question from the one you used for the wedding, for example "Fun & energetic" for the homecoming if the wedding was "Romantic & elegant".

### My second shooter covered the homecoming. Can they upload?

They can, provided they are signed in as a member of your WeddingEditor team. WeddingEditor creates a team upload link for you, and files added through it go into the homecoming project alongside yours.

### What does a homecoming highlight cost?

A homecoming film is priced like any other edit: One Wedding is $119 one-time for one wedding, and a plan subscriber spends a single credit on the project.
