# A pheras highlight that shows each round around the sacred fire

The pheras are the heart of many Hindu wedding ceremonies: the couple walk around a sacred fire, agni, while the priest recites mantras, usually seven times in North Indian weddings (the saat phere), though some regional traditions use four. Their garments are often tied together, and the vows are traditionally linked to the rounds. After the pheras many families perform the sindoor and mangalsutra rites, and the couple are considered married. The ceremony is timed to an auspicious muhurat, which can be late at night. Upload the pheras as their own WeddingEditor project and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

## How to get a pheras highlight

1. **Upload the ceremony at the mandap** Add the footage from the mandap: the couple seated by the fire, the gathbandhan, each round, and the sindoor and mangalsutra if you want them in. Firelight and night timing mean cameras vary a lot, so include every angle and let your notes say which looks best.
2. **Ask for each round** In the must-include question, ask for a moment from each round so the film shows the shape of the ceremony, and name who led in each round if the order changed. Name the couple's siblings if they played a part, such as the bride's brother offering puffed rice in some families.
3. **Receive and refine** Use a credit or pay for One Wedding, start processing, and wait typically 24 to 72 hours. The edit, made by WeddingEditor's AI editing, appears in your project as a 1080p MP4. Up to two revision rounds are available by email if a round of the pheras is missing.

## Pheras moments to list

- **The gathbandhan**: The bride's dupatta tied to the groom's scarf or shawl before the rounds.
- **Each round**: The couple walking around the fire, one leading, then the other, with the mantras over it.
- **Offerings into the fire**: Ghee, rice or puffed rice offered into the flames.
- **The brother's part**: In many families the bride's brother gives puffed rice to the couple to offer into the fire.
- **Sindoor**: The groom applying sindoor to the parting of the bride's hair.
- **Mangalsutra**: The groom tying the mangalsutra, and the families' cheer after.

## What happens at the pheras, in order

This outline follows many North Indian Hindu weddings. Regional ceremonies differ: Gujarati weddings have four rounds, many South Indian weddings center on the saptapadi (seven steps), and the order varies with the priest.

- **1. The fire is lit**: The priest lights the sacred fire in the mandap and offers prayers, with the couple seated before it.
- **2. The garments are tied**: The gathbandhan ties the couple's garments together, symbolising their union for the rounds.
- **3. The rounds**: The couple circle the fire, commonly seven times, the groom often leading for the first rounds and the bride for the rest, while the priest recites the vows associated with each.
- **4. Sindoor and mangalsutra**: After the rounds, in many families, the groom applies sindoor to the bride's hair parting and ties the mangalsutra, and the couple seek blessings from elders.
- **One project, one film**: A pheras project produces one edit, either a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser, chosen when you create it.
- **Firelight, one consistent look**: WeddingEditor works toward one consistent finished look across the cameras and the light. You can finish the MP4 in your own editor.

## Parts of the pheras and what to note in the preferences

| Part of the pheras | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Fire lit | Flames, the priest's prayers | "Open on the fire." |
| Gathbandhan | Garments being tied | "Must include." |
| Rounds | The couple circling, mantras | "A moment from every round." |
| Offerings | Rice or ghee into the fire | "The brother's puffed rice." |
| Sindoor | The groom's hand at the hair parting | "Must include, close." |
| Mangalsutra and blessings | The necklace tied, elders' hands | "End on the grandparents' blessing." |

## What are the pheras?

The pheras are the rounds a Hindu couple take around a sacred fire during their wedding ceremony while vows are recited, commonly seven in North Indian weddings, after which the couple are considered married.

Not the same as: The saptapadi, the seven steps, is closely related and in some traditions is the binding rite instead of or alongside the rounds. The Sikh Anand Karaj has four laavan around the Guru Granth Sahib, not a fire.

## Pheras highlight questions

### Can the highlight show all seven rounds?

Ask for a moment from each round and the AI editing will include them. In a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes they will be brief, so say which rounds deserve more time.

### Our pheras were at 2 am and the footage is dark. Is that a problem?

WeddingEditor works toward one consistent finished look, so the film does not jump with every camera change. Upload every angle and say which camera handled the firelight best.

### Will the mantras be heard?

If your cameras caught them, yes. Ask for a speech-led balance in the audio question to keep the priest's voice prominent.

### Can I get the whole ceremony as a film?

WeddingEditor makes a Highlight Reel or a Social Teaser. If the family wants the entire ceremony, cut that yourself from your own footage.

### Can my second shooter's mandap angle go in the same project?

Yes. WeddingEditor sets up a team upload link for teammates signed in to your WeddingEditor team, and their mandap angle lands in the same project.

### How long does it take?

Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours after you start it.

### Will WeddingEditor decide how many pheras to show or in what order?

No. The number of rounds and their order follow the family's tradition and the pandit, which WeddingEditor does not decide. It edits the footage you upload, so list the rounds and vows you want included in the moments field.
