# A jaimala highlight of the garlands, the lifting and the cheering

The jaimala, also called the varmala, is the exchange of flower garlands between the bride and groom, usually soon after the baraat arrives, on a stage or at the entrance to the mandap. In many families it is the first time the couple face each other on the wedding day, and it has a playful custom: relatives on each side lift the bride or the groom to make it harder for the other to place the garland. It is short, loud and full of cheering. Upload the jaimala footage as its own WeddingEditor project and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

## How to get a jaimala highlight

1. **Upload the jaimala and the moments around it** Because the jaimala itself may last only a few minutes, include the bride's entrance toward the stage and the moments right after, so the film has room to build. Upload the files from every angle you had on the stage.
2. **Name the lifters** The friends and cousins who lifted the couple are the stars of this moment, so name them and what they wore. Say whether the bride or the groom garlanded first, and list the petal shower or any confetti as a must-include moment.
3. **Get the finished edit** Pay or spend a credit, start processing, and expect it to typically take 24 to 72 hours. The finished edit lands in your project to watch and download as an MP4, and up to two revision rounds by email are included.

## Jaimala moments to list

- **The bride's entrance**: The bride walking to the stage, often under a phoolon ki chadar, a canopy of flowers held by her brothers or cousins.
- **Facing each other**: The couple's first look at each other on the stage.
- **The lifting**: Friends lifting the groom high, then the bride's side lifting her in reply.
- **The garlands**: Each garland going over the other's head, and the cheer that follows.
- **Petals**: Flower petals or confetti thrown over the couple.
- **The families**: Both families crowding the stage for a photo afterwards.

## What happens at a jaimala, in order

The jaimala is common in North Indian Hindu weddings. The timing, the playfulness and even whether it happens vary by family.

- **1. The bride arrives**: After the baraat is welcomed, the bride is brought to the stage or mandap entrance, in many families under a canopy of flowers carried by her brothers.
- **2. The couple face each other**: The bride and groom stand facing each other holding their garlands, usually made of fresh flowers such as roses or marigolds.
- **3. The playful contest**: Friends and relatives often lift one partner so the other cannot reach, and the crowd cheers each attempt.
- **4. The exchange**: Each places a garland on the other, which many families see as the couple accepting each other. Petals and photos follow.
- **Every angle can go in**: Upload the stage from each camera into one project without renaming or sorting first. There is no limit on file count.
- **Cheers kept as they were**: The crowd's cheering and any dhol on stage stay as recorded, used together with music as your audio preference sets.

## Parts of the jaimala and what to note in the preferences

| Part of the jaimala | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Bride's entrance | A flower canopy, the bride walking slowly | "Open here." |
| Facing each other | Two garlands, the couple on stage | "Hold on the first look." |
| Lifting | Friends lifting the couple, laughter | "Keep every attempt." |
| Exchange | Garlands placed, cheering | "Must include, both garlands." |
| Petals | Flower petals over the couple | "Close on the petals." |

## What is a jaimala?

A jaimala, or varmala, is the exchange of flower garlands between the bride and groom at a Hindu wedding, symbolising that they accept each other, usually held after the groom's arrival and before the main ceremony.

Not the same as: The milni is the garland exchange between relatives of the two families, not the couple. The pheras are the main ceremony around the sacred fire that follows later.

## Jaimala highlight questions

### The jaimala lasted three minutes. Can it make a whole film?

A short one, yes. Include the bride's entrance and the moments after, and consider a Social Teaser if you only have a few minutes of footage.

### Can the AI editing keep every lifting attempt?

Ask for it in the must-include question. The AI editing follows the moments you list.

### Can the jaimala be part of the baraat film instead?

Yes. Upload both into one project and say the order. Separate projects make separate films.

### The stage lighting was harsh. Can the edit soften it?

WeddingEditor works toward one consistent finished look across your cameras. Pick the best-exposed angles to upload and mention them in your notes; you can grade the MP4 afterwards yourself.

### Do I need to trim clips before uploading?

No. You do not need to rename, sort or pre-select clips.

### How do I request changes?

Email your notes from the link in the app. Up to two revision rounds are included.

### Does WeddingEditor decide how the jaimala playfulness, such as lifting the groom, is shown?

No. How the garland exchange should look on film is for the couple and the families to decide. WeddingEditor follows the footage you upload and your preference notes.
