# An Indian engagement highlight with the rings, the blessings and both families

The engagement, called the sagai, mangni or ring ceremony in many Indian families, is where the couple exchange rings in front of both families, usually with a priest's blessing, gifts between the families and a meal or party afterwards. Some families hold it months before the wedding, others the day before, and many combine it with the roka. If you filmed it, upload the engagement as its own WeddingEditor project, name the people and moments, and WeddingEditor's AI editing makes a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser.

## How to get an engagement highlight

1. **Upload the engagement footage** Create a project for the engagement and upload the prayers, the ring exchange, the gifts, any speeches or dances, and the party. If a second shooter covered the other side of the room, their files can join the same project through a team upload link that WeddingEditor sets up.
2. **Point out the ring moment and the elders** Name the couple, their parents and grandparents, and anyone who led the blessings. Put the ring exchange, the moment the families embraced and any speech at the top of the must-include list, and say whether you want speech or music to lead.
3. **Receive and revise** Spend a plan credit or buy One Wedding, then start processing; it generally takes 24 to 72 hours. WeddingEditor's AI editing makes the film and it is delivered to your project. Watch, download, and send up to two rounds of notes by email.

## Engagement moments to list

- **Blessings**: A priest's prayer or a family elder's blessing before the rings.
- **The rings**: Each ring going on, the couple's faces, the families cheering.
- **Gifts between families**: Trays of clothes, sweets and jewelry exchanged.
- **The couple with their parents**: Each set of parents blessing the couple.
- **Speeches or dances**: A sibling's speech or a family dance, if there was one.
- **Cake or celebration**: Cutting a cake or the party starting, depending on the family.

## What happens at an Indian engagement, in order

Engagements range from an intimate ceremony at home to a large hotel event. Regional names and customs differ; Gujarati families may call it a gol dhana or chandlo matli, for example.

- **1. Prayers**: Many families begin with a puja led by a priest, sometimes with a Ganesh prayer, to bless the occasion.
- **2. Ring exchange**: The couple exchange rings, often prompted by the families, and the room applauds.
- **3. Gifts and blessings**: The families exchange gifts such as clothes, sweets and jewelry, and elders bless the couple, sometimes with shagun.
- **4. Celebration**: A meal, speeches, dancing or a cake often follows. Larger engagements look much like a small reception.
- **Choose the deliverable up front**: When you create the project you choose either a Highlight Reel of about 5 minutes or a Social Teaser. One project gives one edit.
- **Made and delivered**: For this Indian engagement film, every full edit is made by WeddingEditor's AI editing and delivered to your project.

## Parts of the engagement and what to note in the preferences

| Part of the engagement | What it looks or sounds like | What to note in the preferences |
|---|---|---|
| Puja | A priest, a small altar, mantras | "Short, with the couple seated." |
| Ring exchange | Rings, applause, close faces | "Must include, both rings." |
| Gifts | Trays and boxes passed between families | "One shot of the trays." |
| Blessings | Elders' hands on the couple's heads | "Both grandmothers." |
| Speech | A family member with a microphone | "The brother's speech, in full." |
| Party | Dancing or dinner | "Brief, end on the couple laughing." |

## What is an Indian engagement ceremony?

An Indian engagement ceremony, often called a sagai or ring ceremony, is a pre-wedding event where the couple formally exchange rings in the presence of both families, usually with blessings and gifts.

Not the same as: The roka is the family's acceptance of the match and may not involve rings. The tilak is a ceremony for the groom held by the bride's family in some North Indian traditions.

## Engagement highlight questions

### Our engagement and roka were the same day. Which page fits?

Either. Upload everything into one project and say the order of what happened, whatever the family called it.

### Can the ring exchange be shown from two angles?

If both cameras caught it and both are uploaded, mention that in the must-include question and the AI editing can use both views.

### The engagement was months before the wedding. Can I add it to the wedding project later?

Footage is locked once a project is paid for, so add it before you check out, or give the engagement its own project.

### Can I get a teaser of the engagement for the couple's save-the-date?

Yes. Choose Social Teaser for the project. It comes as a widescreen 1080p MP4 that you can trim or reframe yourself.

### Is account sign-up free?

Yes. You only pay when you are ready to start an edit.

### How many revision rounds do I get?

Two, by email from the link in the app, on the same edit.

### Who decides how the ring exchange and blessings are presented?

The families and whoever leads any puja do. WeddingEditor does not decide religious or family protocol for an engagement; it edits the footage you upload, so name the moments to include and anything the families asked you not to show.
