# An emotional wedding highlight built on speeches and the faces hearing them

An emotional Highlight Reel usually rises toward one big moment rather than staying level. A typical arc opens quietly on family getting ready, lets the processional and vows introduce the people who matter, and saves its peak for a toast or a parent dance, with reactions cut in from the room, before settling on a calmer ending. In about 5 minutes there is room for one long speech passage and two or three shorter voices. You choose which ones in the preference questions, and WeddingEditor's AI editing builds the highlight around them.

Decide which speech is the peak before you brief it. A highlight that tries to hold every tearful moment at full length ends up holding none of them well.

## How to brief an emotional highlight

1. **Start a Highlight Reel project with every angle** Pick Highlight Reel when you create the project; it will be that project's single edit. Upload the speaker cameras and the room cameras without renaming them; several cameras still become one wedding story, with the cleanest version of each voice and the best face to cut to.
2. **Name the peak and the supporting voices** Choose Emotional & Cinematic, More speeches & voices and family and reactions. In the speeches question, name the one passage that should be the high point and quote it, then list two or three shorter lines that can lead up to it. In the people question, say whose reactions should answer each one.
3. **Check the arc when it arrives** Processing typically takes 24 to 72 hours. When it finishes, watch the highlight in your project and ask whether it builds. If the peak arrives too early or a key reaction is missing, describe the change in one of your up to two revision rounds, emailed from the link in the app.

## Moments an emotional highlight must include

Put these into the must-include question, in the order the film should build. Name people and times wherever you can.

- **A quiet start**: "Open on the groom's mother fixing his tie in the hotel room, before anyone speaks."
- **An early voice**: "From the ceremony, the reading by her younger brother, just the line 'you were always the brave one'."
- **The peak**: "Maid of honour's speech, the part about the year in hospital. Keep it whole, with the bride's face and her mum's."
- **A reaction worth holding**: "The bride's grandfather wiping his eyes at the end of the vows, second camera, third row aisle seat."
- **The parent dance**: "Groom and his mum dancing, the moment she laughs and puts her head on his chest."
- **A softer ending**: "End on the family group hug at the exit rather than the sparklers."

## What an emotional highlight balances

- **Build against constant intensity**: If every scene is a tearful one, none of them stands out. Emotional highlights commonly keep the first third calm and let the feeling rise toward one chosen moment.
- **Speaker against listener**: Cutting from a speech to the people hearing it doubles its weight, but cutting too often breaks the speaker's rhythm. Name the reactions that are essential so they can be placed with care.
- **One long voice, a few short ones**: About 5 minutes allows one passage to play at length and a handful of single lines elsewhere. Choosing the long one is the decision that shapes the whole highlight.
- **What the full film keeps**: Complete toasts, every reading and the full parent dances stay in the longer film you edit yourself. The highlight is the version the family will replay.
- **A single edit of about 5 minutes**: The Highlight Reel is the only edit its project produces and runs about 5 minutes, delivered as a 1080p MP4 that you can finish further in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.

## Briefing the emotional peaks

| Moment | Why it matters in an emotional highlight | How to brief it |
|---|---|---|
| Parents getting ready | Sets up who the family is before anyone speaks | Name the parent and the room |
| Processional | First look at the faces that will return later | Say who walks in and whose face to watch |
| Family reading | An early voice that hints at the peak | Quote one line, not the whole reading |
| Main toast | The peak of the film | Quote the passage and name two reactions to cut to |
| Parent dances | Release after the peak | Point to a laugh or whisper near the end |
| Exit or farewell | A calm resolution | Name the closing image and who is in it |

## What is an emotional Highlight Reel?

A Highlight Reel is the WeddingEditor deliverable that runs about 5 minutes, one per project. An emotional one uses that time to build toward the speech or dance that moved the room, cut with the family's reactions and made by WeddingEditor's AI editing from your footage.

Not the same as: Not a speeches video. The full toasts and readings live in the longer film you deliver yourself; the highlight carries the strongest passage and the faces around it.

## Emotional highlight questions

### Which speech should be the peak of the highlight?

The one where the room reacted most, not necessarily the longest. If two are equally strong, pick the one with cleaner audio and the better reaction shots, and note the other as a shorter supporting line.

### Can the highlight stay in order and still build?

Usually yes, because toasts and parent dances come late in most weddings. If your peak happened early, such as a reading in the ceremony, say whether you would rather keep the day's order or move toward that moment.

### How do I point to a reaction on the second camera?

Describe it by person, place and moment: "the groom's father, front row left, during the ring exchange". File names help if you have them, but renaming before upload is not required.

### What if a speaker's audio is poor?

The edit can only use the sound that was recorded. Say which copy is clearest, or ask for that moment to be carried by the faces listening instead of the words.

### Can I change the peak after I see the edit?

Yes, within your up to two revision rounds. Email the change from the link in the app, for example "use the brother's toast as the peak instead", and the same highlight is revised.
